Kgry Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Well they repaved my street and I got tar all over my truck. Doors, quarters, bed, everywhere. I bought some tar remover and that worked for 90% of the problem but I still have massive amounts caked on around the bottom. Anyone know a safe way to get that off aside of scraping it off? The remover I bought kind of works but it would take forever to rub it off.
RyanbabZ71 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Dupont - Prepsol Great stuff it will remove your wax so make sure to wash your truck and rewax after using. Will not harm the paint at all.
nluchau Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I have heard wd-40 works but not sure how it would work with the massive amounts you have
Rookie Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I have always used Kerosene (sp) , but just make sure you wash and wax after you are done.
ManyCamaroz Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 My dad used to have a body shop that did all of the body repair for the Porsche dealership. They repaved the road and got tar and asphalt on some of the cars. The pavers sent some guys over to remove the tar. They used Go-Jo hand cleaner. Followed up with wax. I have found that diesel fuel works wonders, as well as alcohol (denatured, rubbing, etc.).
99silveradoz71 Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 They used Go-Jo hand cleaner. Followed up with wax. I had some tar on a cruiser at work a few years back and I used hand cleaner they had in the back garage. It also worked to take the spilled gasoline stain off from below the fuel door. Of course this cleaner felt abrasive and the paint didn't feel too smooth afterward, so I'd definitely shy away from doing it to my own ride. But others care about our work cars less than I do, so I didn't worry too much.
Kgry Posted September 8, 2005 Author Posted September 8, 2005 Just wanted to post an update to this. Believe it or not, I went to every hardware store in my area, including Home Depot, and none had kerosene. So I gave this stuff called Goo Gone (I think, yellow bottle) a shot. This stuff is the real deal, I barely had to apply any pressure and it took layers of tar off. And it was only $3.50. Just make sure to wash and wax after.
