OUTSIDE MIRRORS

My problem is I have the standard heated mirrors with the turn signals.

Occasionaly the mirror housing will move back in forth. It does it more when

I have the mirror extenders on for towing.

Is there any way to tighten this to get it stop. I am assuming there is a bolt that

can be tightened, but I can't figure out how to get to it.

Any help would be great. :seeya:

Gentex is the maker of the mirror (glass) only, the housing is someone different, and I’m not sure who. The housing is held to the base (the part attached to the door) with a spring, unless you have the power fold option. Either way, you cannot tighten the assembly w/out damaging it. I work/live in the unofficial automotive mirror capital (Holland/Zeeland, MI), and have dissected many mirrors, it's one of the parts that when it’s broke, it's better to replace the whole thing.

What type of mirror extensions are you using? How stable is the mirror housing w/out the extensions? Your sig states it's a '03, if the head is truly loose, it should be covered under warranty.

I can't remember the name on the extensions that I am using, but they just slide over the housing and have a wedge you slide in and there is a nob to tighten to keep it in place.

The mirrors move around even with the extensions off. It mostly happens at highway speeds either when there is a gust of wind or when I am behind a big rig.

You can grab the mirror and it wiggles back in forth maybe a 1/4" or so, but it is enough that when it happens I have to readjust the mirror inorder to see.

The truck is out of the factory warranty, but it still has the extended warranty. I just don't want to pay the deductible.

I was hoping that it was something that I could fix and not have to take it back to the dealership.

Thanks for the replies.

Me and my father in law both use those extensions (CIPA is the brand) and I have not had a problem with them. I do get some funny air currents off the Lund hood protector on the front that will shake the mirrors occassionally, but that happens regardless of the extensions.

It sounds like the spring clip is loosening up. I folded mine Sat and that killed the LH, with the retaining spring clip popping completely off the mount. I pulled the housing apart and found no way to repair the part, as the clip doesn't appear reuseable. Time for the extended warranty, hopefully the replacement assembly includes glass since mine cracked during removal. Two cheers for disposable products!

My GF's mirror cracked, all else works fine. How would you reccommend fxing the nmirror portion? replace the whole deal o can you get just the mirror?
