Hi y'all! Anybody have any recommendations on a more powerful radio antenna for our trucks? Yeah, I'm old school and listen to both AM and FM alot. I've noticed that my wife's Honda gets better reception on faraway stations than my Sierra.

Thanks in advance!

That is funny b/c my 03 Silverado gets better reception than my wife's Honda!!!

Radio Shack used to make a booster that went in line with the radio antenna, I don't know if the still do but it is a place to start. Also check and make sure your antenna is plugged in to the radio good. I had reception issues in my Tacoma and it was b/c the antenna plug was not in snug! My dealer had removed the radio to replace it and the tech didn't push the connector in all the way. Could have happened on the assembly line, or your truck may have been worked on before in that area.

You are not going to get much better reception on AM, since most of the radios have an internal antenna for that.

If you really want good reception, dump FM and AM all together and go with sat radio. There are quite a few kits to add it to our trucks, some make it look factory.

It's also not always the antenna that makes the difference. Some radios are more sensitive than others (check out the FM dB numbers at a place like Crutchfield). It's possible that your wife's car stereo itself is the reason. Although I agree with BRZ71- my 2004's Delco Bose is about the most sensitive to FM signals I've had yet (including by comparison to a couple aftermarket models- such as a Sony and two different Pioneer SuperTuner III's).

So if you check out your antenna connections and everything seems sound, and you decide to replace your factory antenna, I'd keep hold of it long enough to make sure that the new antenna is an improvement.

BRZ71, Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check the connection first and then look into the Radio Shack solution if it was disconnected. I have the stock non-Bose, non-XM AM/FM cassette CD unit. It's good enough for me right now. Thx again.

USAfan1, Guess I should've gotten the Delco Bose. Thanks for the info as I'll definitely pay attention to the db numbers if I ever get around to replacing the stock unit. Didn't know they were published.

When checing the connections there are 2. At the stereo, and one a the top of the dash on the passneger side. You mightbe able to access it behind the glovebox.

Forgot to add mine is the Bose too, but I think to radios are the same pretty much (excpet of the 6 disk thing), the Bose units just have a seperate amp and more speakers.
