K & N Intakes

Hey Guys/Ladies,

Hopefully this isn't a dumb question. I've been looking at the K & N website. I've always run K & N filters in the past but lately I've been looking at the intake kits. Their website provides two different intakes for my truck and I'm not sure what the difference is.

First One Here....

2nd one here...

I see that the first one the tube is metal, whereas the second one I think it plastic. Is one preferred over the other? Will it make much of a difference? I've also been looking at the Helix Throttle Body Spacer. As with anyone else, I'd like to squeeze a little more MPG out of a tank full. First question, are these decent and easy to install. Second question, does anyone know if it will affect the warranty on the truck? Thanks.

I would say K&N is decent, they are one of the bigger names in the intake/ re-usable high flow air filter market.

The first intake I think just looks more bling, I didn't really look at the diameter, but I noticed the second one is lighter, and boasts more HP. That being said I have the second one on my truck. I didn't buy it, I installed this for my Dad 4 or 5 years ago when he bought the truck, cause he wanted a little better MPG, between the intake and the Flowmaster cat back duals he had me put on, he claimed 1-2 mpg improvement. I just like it caus eof the throaty sound, and washable filter.

Me personally had I been buying the parts, I prbably woudl have looked at AEM too, They cost a bit more, but I have been very happy with the fit, finish, and performance they gacve my other vehicles.

The K&N FIPK will give you better performance than the 77 Series because the plastic tube will keep the intake air cooler than the metal tube. The K&N will not work with a throttle body spacer because the intake tube will hit the fan.

If you want to go with a system as good as the K&N with a TB spacer then you should check out the setup made by AIRAID(www.airaid.com).Their filter is a better filter than the K&N and the Airaid TB spacer works with their intake kit and doesn't hit the fan. I put the Airaid Intake kit and TB spacer on my 6.0 and it sure makes a difference in power and mileage. The best deal on the Airaid setup in your town is Mopac Auto Supply. If you have any questions, call Airaid, they have a toll free number on their website and also great customer service.

Thanks for all the great info. I'm pretty new to this stuff so I'd rather plan it and do it right the first time. Like I said, I've used K & N Stuff before and was pretty happy with it and it seems to be a popular setup. I will check out that AirRaid setup as well though.
