topo4u2 Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Hello, I have been reading the forums on what I could find with regards to this clunk some are getting. I have been noticing it myself in my 05 Z71. It seems to only do it at certain speeds and not all the time. I guess my question is...does anyone know if it will hurt anything? Is it worth mentioning to the dealer or will I get a runaround? Truck is still under warranty but from what I read it does not sound like this issue is getting cured for most.
mcreyaufmiller Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 probably good to mention it to the dealer, even though they will not find anything (as they say) it will document to GM that you complained about the problem.

You will hear what the rest of us have, but you will have a record of the visit if something worse happened later.
topo4u2 Posted September 12, 2005 Author Posted September 12, 2005 Thanks for the info...I will do that next days off. Always appreciated. I wonder what will be next...mmmm
topo4u2 Posted September 13, 2005 Author Posted September 13, 2005 Update: Dropped her off at the dealer today. Got a call a few hours later to tell me they cant hear it. I went down and took the guy out with me and sure enough I cant make it do it either....mind you its like 100 degrees in the shade today so the heat may have something to do with it. Anyway, shall leave it for now untill it gets colder out and see if it becomes more persistent. But at least its on record. When I picked it up the service manager said no charge today....duh!!! its under warranty.
sledr Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 My '04 Silverado ECSB Z71 has done this from day one. I currently have 55000 kms and it hasn't gotten worse but it hasn't gotten better either. The dealer told me this is normal operation. The bulletin I read also confirms this for me. I just nail the gas a little harder when I take off in order to get rid of the clunk.
topo4u2 Posted September 14, 2005 Author Posted September 14, 2005 thanks for the reply Sledr. Nice to know Im not the only one with the same condition. And yes, it certainly is speed related.
sledr Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 BTW There is a bulletin out there dated May 9th 2005 that addresses a rarely occuring hesitation or slipping on takeoff. My truck has this condition also. It has happened 3 times since i have owned it. The fix involves a reprogram of the PCM. There is also mention in this bulletin addressing the 2-3 shift clunk as well as the hesiation. I had the reprogramming done a few weeks ago and the clunk hasn't disappeared but I don't seem to notice it as much. It may be worth while to talk to the dealer about it.
topo4u2 Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 Thanks again Sledr, I will have to hunt up that bulletin and print it out or something. My dealer would have to see it in black and white. I only had that tranny delay happen once so far. Thanks again for the info.
cbsmith Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I had the STB from May 9 applied ot my truck on Friday and the shift clunk noise is not as loud now.
