Curious on Engine Upgrades

I was always curious, i had asked a few GM Certified people i used to know up here in WNY, and they were pretty shy against K&N Cold Air Intakes, Throttle Body Spacers, and soforth. The impression they got, were that basically... "the engine was built the way it was to perform the way it was...you screw with it, and you come up with problems"

 

So, just a question, all great and allmighty Certified GM Expert whom i very much bow down before thee...

 

How do you feel on these items...

 

-Performance Intake (ex. K&N)

-Throttle Body Spacer

 

 

The reason i purely ask is...i'm a stock guy. Everything i buy is AC Delco...from plugs to filters. Whereas my brother, enjoys ripping apart his throttle body to put a spacer in it so it produces a nice "whistle" and apparently saves him gas, which i have yet to see.

I'm with your friends in WNY. Leave it alone. But that's just me. I'm sure some do some quality mods that improves things somewhat without any negative side effects.

Agreed. Although the one thing i'm worried about...i've driven 1500's with the same setup i have, with the 4.3L V6 and 3:08's ...and everyone else's shifted nice and quiet, and was kind of slow...

 

Mine flys like a bat out of hell, and the tranny is felt very hard when it shifts...hard firm shifts...you absolutly know when its shifting.

 

I was thinking maybe someone may have tampered with the programming of it...because it is quite a unique truck. I heard about taking it to a dealer to get it reprogrammed stock, but, unless its free...im kinda broke right now-lol
