JL Audio CleanSweep..... anyone tried it yet?

As the title states....... Supposedly it "cleans" up any stock radio signal and outputs something comparable to a high quality aftermarket headunit. It sounds like a pretty neat module if it does what it says. There is a good deal of info on the JL Audio website if anyone wants to read up on it.

Here's a link to JL's page that tells what this is...

I think by "cleans up" they mean it corrects the presumed abysmal frequency response curve of the factory radio.

The description they have doesn't claim it removes any distortion. And in my humble opinion, distortion is the main problem with the GM factory units.

Ever hear a clean sounding setup (most likely an aftermarket unit) that you can play loud and your ears don't complain? Ever hear a cheezy setup that hurts your ears even when it's not that loud? Distortion is the difference.

While I applaud JL's efforts here, I think money is better spent *replacing* the factory radio, not getting into kahoots with it.

I agree changing out the head unit would be best but is there a way to change out the head unit for now and still use the BOSE speakers? I need to save up more $$$ to get the component set and amp I want with it.

I really like my OEM head unit interface, and the sound quality is great at all levels with very little distortion...And I've amplified the bejiggers out of it.

Head units are one of the cheapest "bang for the buck" upgrades in the mobile audio realm.

I just kept my stocker because I wanted it to be stealthy and because the sound quality was much better than I expected once I replaced everything else with higher quality components.

Crap in = Crap out, I don't care what you're converting from/to. I have to say that buying that would be like putting a bandaid on shotgun wound.

But I'm also an amateur audio person, and generally don't know WTF I'm talking about, so take that with 3 grains of salt. :dupe:
