Starter grinding

Hi;

I have a 2000 Silverado with the 4.8 that makes a grinding noise when starting. This truck has remote start and it keeps the starter egaged a little longer after the motor has started. It has always done this but now I'm getting a grinding noise after the engine has started. Its the same sound you get when you try and start the engine when its already running. This will also happen when I start it with the key and don't release the key exactly when the engine starts. I think the pinion gear is not releasing from the flywheel but am not sure. Also, does anyone know how to remove the oil level sensor harness so I can drop the starter? Any help is greatly appreciated.
