I've noticed that Silverado half-tons come with P rated tires. I'm about to replace the Wranglers that came on my 2004 Silverado. I expect to do some trailering with this truck( gooseneck horse trailer-probably no more than 5500 lbs.) Should I be going to Light Truck rated tires or can I get away with the P265/70/17's that are stock on these trucks? One of the tires I was thinking of getting is the Michelin LTX M/S and it only comes in a P tire in this size. I assume I would get a nicer ride with the P tires. Any other suggestions on a good tire for this truck would be appreciated.

I replaced my stock Wilderness AT's with Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos in an LT and have been very pleased.

Thanks 99'. I have heard good things about the Revos. I'm looking to soften up the ride a bit on my truck. Would they give me a softer ride than the Wranglers?I just bought a quadrasteer with autoride and it has a very firm ride for a half-ton.

Typically your p rated tires will give a better/softer ride. I swapped out the stock shocks with Bilsteins around the same time I did the tires, so the improvement was quite dramatic. I'd describe the ride as firm and controlled. My truck no longer felt like it was getting rocked around when going over highway expansion joints. The tires and shocks were switched at about 36k, and I'm about 87k now, and the tires are still good and shocks as well. I also tow an enclosed trailer with some landscaping equipment.
