Extended Warranty Claim

Hello - my extended warranty will expire on February 4th, 2006 and I have several problems I am going to try to get them to fix under the GMPP. These are:

1. Power Steering Pump whine - I had this problem under the factory warranty and they replaced the pump.

2. Steering Knock - This problem fits all descriptions perfectly - I have never had the intermediate shaft replaced under the TSB. This truck is a 2002 with 80K on it - the knock happens when moving and holding the wheel in a turning position. Feels like someone is tapping it with a screwdriver.

3. Coolant Loss - I don't know what is causing it but I have to add coolant to it every month when the low coolant light comes on.

4. Transmission Shutter - 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift. I think there is a program update for this and I have never had this done. Also, at one point I had a part on order (I think the actuator) but it was backordered. Maybe that will fix?

5. Dash board lights - the backlight behind my 'cargo lamp' button and a couple of my a/c buttons don't work.

6. Under hood light - this has been 'fixed' before - I have to hit it before it will come on. Seems like a short to me.

7. Emergency brake - goes all the way to the floor. They also fixed this under the factory warranty.

8. Drivers side window - goes much slower than it used to.

9. Center console lid - it no longer stays latched. I have to lock it each time for the lid to stay down.

Is there anything that they will not fix under the GMPP? Also, if I ask the dealership to look for any problems that I am not aware of and fix them (like fluid leaks), will they?

Put your stock rims and tires back on before you go in or they will blame 1 and 4 on them.

#5 I had my radio and ac controls replaced under the gmpp for burnt out lights. they didnt give me any hassle at all.

Depends which dealer you go to. I had fog lamp and CD player problems and one dealer said it wasn't warrantable. I took it to another dealer in different city a month later and they fixed everything under warranty....go figure!!

And that is exactly the reason why GM is in big financial trouble, the've managed to piss off one customer at a time till they have now run out of customers. That's why they can't even give them away at cost anymore. Don't see any employee pricing or deep discounts at Toyota or Nissan. I was reading the other day in the Financial Post that Toyota is running flat out on production and can't keep up. Maybe GM should pay attention!!

My 05 has issues under its original warranty and all I'm told is it's normal. IE: the CRUISE CONTROL: bucks and jerks violently going down an incline and GM wont even attempt repair..says normal operation???? . Jerks so bad that if you hit an icy patch you would probably lose control. I'm sure it doesn't do the drivetrain any good either.

PISTON SLAP: noisy engine..swear a rod is going to let loose on cold driveaway??

2-3 UPSHIFT CLUNK: I could swear the transmission is going to slop out the differential the way it clunks on upshift...GM says normal???

MAJOR BODY RATTLES:...again tsb's out saying normal????

I am sure GM has it's short commings but I have to tell you that Ford is WORSE!

I had a 1992 Ford Taurus Wagon that needed a total transmission replacement after 64,000 miles (NOT COVERED) I had a 1999 Ford Taurus Wagon that needed a total Transmission replacement after 59,500 miles (NOT COVERED) Keep in mind that these were 3500.00 dollar jobs each! They ate brakes like they were Dorrito's and had a slew of electrical problems and lets not forget the slew of recalls. Take it from a former Ford owner, GM is leaps and bounds ahead of Ford in Quality and Service. Just my opinion

I totally agree on all counts, as for the domestics, GM is number one and the best domestic truck out there..BUT.....when lined up side by side with Toyota and Nissan..they have a long way to go.....I was looking for a 2005 Toyota Tundra Ext Cab 4x4 during my recent purchase but there were none to be had (all sold out, unless I wanted to pay and transfer one in 3000 miles away)and I would have had to wait for 2006 model. This was in July. I ended up settling for a GM again mainly due to the deep discounts which made the price attractive. I've always owned GM product and each time I upgrade the quality seems less......which of course you find out after you start driving it a bit.

The toyota yes but not nissan there is a reason they were just rated the least reliable pickup in it's class!Because all they do is break, heck some have problems as soon as they pull of the dealers lots!They are the biggest pos fullsize trucks around, dont believe me go to titan talk and look in the complaints and dealer problems catagory and the 50 or so pages of complaint after complaint!

well it went from a guy asking questions to a whos truck is best very quick didnt it .

if you dealer is as good as mine , all your problems will be fixed or dealt with .

as far as the toyota and nissan being better , well all you have to do is look at sales , GM sales more in 3-4 months than toyota and nissan do all year , theres a reason for that , talk is cheap , the #s dont lie , we give credit to toyota for making great cars , you gotta give the domestics props for there truck lines , its only fair .

im sorry but no one sales out of 2005s in july , toyota truck demand isnt that high , no ones is , that toyota dealer is stupid or didnt want to make a sale , come to the gulf coast , my local dealer has 2005s on the lot with 5000K discounts , all day long right now .

Thanks - yeah the thread kind of changed subjects real fast! I dropped it off at Mac Haik Chevrolet here in Houston this morning. I called them around 11 and the service writer said it is "making its way through the shop." He did say that the coolant loss was caused by a leak in the water pump - so they replaced it. That is good news for me - that's what I figured the problem was based on stories that I have heard. That is also what I wanted it to be - I want this dang extended warranty to pay for itself somehow.

I'll let you know what the outcome of the remainder of the list is when I hear from them.

Well they do here up in Canada. Nothing on the ldealer lots where I live and its a big city.

Alright guys - sorry for the delay in updating you on this. I took the truck in to Mac Haik - I worked with Joe and he was great. Here is what they did for each problem

1. Power Steering Pump whine - I had this problem under the factory warranty and they replaced the pump.

FIX: REPLACED P.S. PUMP

2. Steering Knock - This problem fits all descriptions perfectly - I have never had the intermediate shaft replaced under the TSB. This truck is a 2002 with 80K on it - the knock happens when moving and holding the wheel in a turning position. Feels like someone is tapping it with a screwdriver.

FIX: REPLACED INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

3. Coolant Loss - I don't know what is causing it but I have to add coolant to it every month when the low coolant light comes on.

FIX: REPLACED WATER PUMP, COOLANT

4. Transmission Shutter - 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift. I think there is a program update for this and I have never had this done. Also, at one point I had a part on order (I think the actuator) but it was backordered. Maybe that will fix?

FIX: NO PROBLEM FOUND

5. Dash board lights - the backlight behind my 'cargo lamp' button and a couple of my a/c buttons don't work.

FIX: REPLACED A/C CONTROL UNIT AND CARGO LAMP BUTTON

6. Under hood light - this has been 'fixed' before - I have to hit it before it will come on. Seems like a short to me.

FIX: REPLACED UNDER HOOD LIGHT ASSEMBLY

7. Emergency brake - goes all the way to the floor. They also fixed this under the factory warranty.

FIX: NO PROBLEM FOUND

8. Drivers side window - goes much slower than it used to.

FIX: NO PROBLEM FOUND

9. Center console lid - it no longer stays latched. I have to lock it each time for the lid to stay down.

FIX: THEY DENIED THE CLAIM - EXTENDED DOESN'T COVER TRIM ITEMS

Bottom line, I am very pleased with what they did. The things they did not find a problem with were no suprise to me: the transmission has always been that way, the emergency brake still holds the truck and the pedal has always gone to the floor, and the drivers window is not that slow (I was just trying to get a new motor out of it cause I know someday it will die...)

I am not 100% convinced that I would buy an extended warranty again - it is a nice insurance policy though.
