First Oil Change

I know this topic has been posted before.......

 

Well my 2005 Sierra 5.3 is at 2,900 miles and I am trying to make a decision on the oil change. I would like to start using Mobil 1 because I know people who have had great luck with it in their cars...all over 200K and runing fine.

 

The question I have is should I go to the dealer and get the oil changed by them at 3,000 miles and then at 6,000 miles I change it over to Mobil 1 or should I just change it over to Mobil 1 now at 3,000 miles?

 

 

I just want to do what is best for my truck...I plan on havin her for awhile.

I would go ahead and change it over to M-1. I changed my '01 over to synthetic at about 1,700 miles and the same with my '04 at about 2,500.

 

I too went synthetic because I plan on keeping my trucks for a while and want them to last.

Ditto here too. Did my first oil change with M-1. Truck now has 20K miles, with no oil usage at all. Based on my experience I'd say go for it.

I just read on some other sites that changing to synthetic oil too early can cause problems. I think Im going to change it to Mobil 1 this weekend.

I changed mine to Mobil 1 at 660 miles. NO issues yet, 10,000 miles strong.

I went 500 miles on the factory fill, then changed over to M1. 5500 miles now, no problems and the oil level on the stick hasn't changed.
