Automatic headlight overide

Has anyone done a bypass or overide of the automatic headlights.  90% of the time I reaaly like it.  The problem is at the boat launch at 0'dark:30 when alot of boats are launching. Courtesy to others is to shut off your headlights while backing down and launching so you don't blind the other side of the ramp.  Any ideas?  New guy here from Oregon.  Thanks!

On my Company's 2001 Blazer we just push the little button by the headlight switch for the dome light on or off....about 4 times in and out and the headlights go off. Try this!

Unfortunately, the '99's and some early '00's don't have that feature.  ???

That sucks.  I love that little feature, I use that every single day to shut off the auto lights.  It does get old having to do it all the time, since it reset when you turn the truck off, but it is a free way to do it, so it will do.   :D

Glad I searched and found this topic this morning.  It is overcast cloudy around Boulder, Colorado this morning.  This was the first test of the Automatic Headlamp System (AHS) for me in this weather.  I startup in my garage, headlights come on, drive about 2 miles headlights turn off and DRLs come on, about two more miles and the headlights come back on, one last time about two miles later the headlights turn off.  Rather annoying to me and probably other drivers thinking I am some moron.

I know I can push the dome override button a few times and temporarily deactive the AHS.  I will do this in future similar weather, but I wanted to see how AHS performed this morning.  I would rather have more permanent control of my lights.  Not some button I have to push three or four times every time I start the engine.

I did discover a fuse in fuse block under the hood that can be pulled to disable the DRL's.  But I have not found a fuse for the AHS system.  I have even taken the "if all else fails" approach and read the owners manual.

Hey GM engineers: how about a four position headlight switch similar to our Toyota Avalon...off, park lights, headlights, AHS.

The disabling of the lights is thoroughly discussed in the General/Off Topic Forum under the Topic Title "Auto-On Headlights Disabled for $1.07".  The thread was started March 29/02 and last posted to on 3/31/02.  I had to scroll to it as i was unable to get the "Search" feature to fing it.

Just turn the switch to the full on position, the lights will stay on and you won't look like an idiot.
