portable tool sets

I was a professional mechanic for 6 years and ran a service station, mostly I did A/C, and light bolt on stuff like water pumps, alternators, starters..ect.

I have $$$$ tied up in good Snap-On tools and alot of specialty tools.

Problem is, when I head out to the wrecking yard to pull parts or go on vacation,I always raid my box for sockets and wrenches and anything else I might need.

I am always scared of loosing something. I went to a cheap hardware store and bought some cheap-o sockets and screw sticks and kept them in a duffle back to take to the wrecking yard, but I was always digging though it for someting I could not find

So, behold, I go a looking for me a Christmas present to myself, from my wife.

I looked online at Stanley's mechanics set for about $65 and then I found a Channel-Loc set at Sam's for about the same price.

Then I went into Sears this morning and kind of got caught up in the spirit of the moment.:D

They had a 155 peice Craftsman set with everthing you wanted, well except some more torx and a few pliers that was regularly $149 for $99 then take and extra 10% off before 10am.... well now.. I just had to. I like Crafstman hand tools, they are warrantied and I have never been hasseled about replacing something broken and unlike the set I saw from Channel-Loc at Sam's they are still made in the USA

I do like the molded case that has a spot for every peice so you can glance down and see if you are missing anything before you close it up.

Now I will just keep some cheap pliers and a hammer or two in the bag and I am ready for road trips or the wrecking yard!

I went into sears yesterday and got carried away too. I bought a snowblower. I said hmmm sore back rest of the winter or make it easy on myself. Luckily 4 truckloads got there before i arrived at the store (sold out the day before)

I did the same thing in October. Got tired of raiding my toolbox in the house on the way to work on a boat, only to get to the marina and not have what I needed. So I went to Sears and wound up buying way more than I intended. But now I have a set of tools in my truck toolbox. I think I have all the Allen wrenches in the world, too.

That was my motivation to quit raiding my home box.

If I took my Snap-On 3/8s drive set out and lost one socket pulling a junk yard part, it would be like driving a tire iron through my heart

At least now I will always have something with me at all times.
