So im tpying with the idea of replacing my speakers in my 05 ext cab with componets and replacing the back speakers with better quality than stock. Is it going to harm the factory head unit if i switch everyting to 4 ohms. Also im going to tap the harness for a 4 channel amp wheres the best place to mount this out of sight from view. Is there enough room behind the back seat or is it a bad idea because of heat.

Hey, under the back seat not behind it...it is quite difficult to remove the back seat, and you would never be able to adjust the settings if you put the amps there. Just mount the amp on 1/4" hardboard and screw it to the floor right in the middle. I have an Alpine 545 and 2 350's under my rear seat along with 2 Type S 10's...all fits just fine and if I have to, I can quickly disconnect the subs and remove them so I can flip the seat up and still have room to put stuff when needed, which, is almost never, but you get the point. Just put the amps on the floor on the ledge by the back wall, they will be tucked out of the way while allowing you to adjust as needed...As for heat, my amp is monitored by the amp connection between the HU and the amp and even in the summer and me cranking it it never gets above 125 F, in the winter it barley gets to 75 F...the fans do not even come on at any of those temps temp...so it is not a porblem with quality amps. As for the ohm, not sure what radio you have in your truck, but it will not matter if you run the signal to the amp via a PAC adaptor, just make sure the amp and the speakers match, most all car speakers are 4 ohm, subs can have dual coils for certain applications 2+2 or 4+4, but 5x7, 6.5 and such are always usually 4 ohms...hope this helps, ho ho ho, later, :flag::thumbs::sigh:

Heck the factory speakers in my 2005 were 4 ohms in front and 8 ohms in back. So if the bean counters at GM don't care (and that's who probably forced this awkward configuration, no self respecting *engineer* would have), you shouldn't worry either. 4 ohms are fine.

I put my amps behind the rear seat...Once you get it set, you don't mess with it anyway. That's how I looked at it.

Amps

There are only about 5 bolts (18mm, I think) to take off in order to remove the back seat. I did it by myself...Not very hard IMO.
