95 Tahoe Stalling

Hello all,

I have a 95 Tahoe with a 5.7 that has somemajor drivability issues. Everytime I come to a stop it stalls out. Also when I stand on the gas from cruising speed it hesitates for a second then downshifts and goes like it should. My major concern is the stalling out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance...

The stall at a stop could be a vacuum leak. Possibly the same issue on acceleration, but possibly need to change the fuel filter too.

I used to have a 95', no problems for 10 years, loved that truck.

Sounds to me like a dying fuel pump more than anything.

I have searched and searched for a vacuum leak and can't find one. I have recently replaced fuel pump and filter, Egr valve, O2 sensor, TBI gaskets, Intake gaskets, water pump, timin chain, distributor, cap & rotor, plugs, MAP sensor, coolant temp sensor, compression is 120-140 on all cylinders, TPS sensor. I have it to the dealer 5 times and of course they can't pinpoint the problem. I have even changed ECM's and still no difference. It only acts up while it is WARM.

Well I've had the truck for 5 years and I love it. You must be one of the few "Lucky Ones" that had no problems with these trucks.

Wow you've already checked a lot of stuff, that narrows it. If you haven't already have you checked your injectors and plugs?

You didnt say you replaced the IAC 40 dollars part 10 min to replace has fixed idle problems for me almost every time.

New AcDelco plugs and I do have a new IAC from GM. Neither have helped. As fas as the injectors I have a very nice conical spray pattern on each one.

Is there any possible way that it could be a bad fuel cap?

duh i forgot 95's were carbed.

hmm have you noticed any smoke? has the engine been overreved in the past?

FYI the 95 is fuel injected via Throttle body injection. And no I do not have any smoke.

Starting fluid is the only thing I've ever used.

Try a different gas cap since it's an easy enough fix if it works. I've been told that when fuel pumps go, they go. But, I haven't had the one on my '95 Suburban go out yet, so that's just what I've heard. Maybe others can weigh in with their experience on that. It does sound like possibly a fuel pressure issue. Regulator?

If it is a vacuum leak causing it to stall, it's a BIG ONE. If it's the TBI base gasket, the Idle usually is increased, unless a large section got sucked in, then it may stall. Another option could be a stuck open EGR valve. You can unbolt it from the intake to check and see if the pintel is open, usually clogged with carbon. Another leak possibility may be the intake gaskets. The way to check for that would be to pull the PCV valve out of the valve cover,then the PCV hose, the one going to the air cleaner, and place your thumbs over the holes in the valve covers to check for suction. If a vacuum leak is not the problem, I would check the IAC (Idle Air Control) motor, It's screwed into the side of the Throttle Body....just a few things to check, hope this helps

DUH! I should've read the whole thread, you checked most of that stuff already . Check the IAC and the MAP. Check to make sure the vacuum hose to the MAP is connected. Also, I would try and get a SCAN tool on it to see what the ECM is seeing before you condemn the ECM. Just another thought
