Idle too Fast

I have a 2001 Chevy 2500HD, 6.0 gas, 44K miles. Truck was running perfectly except for sticky accelerator pedal (again). This time I removed the throttle body and removed just a little metal from the butterfly valve. Just enough for a little clearance so as not to be prone to getting sticky after driving. After putting it back together the idle will not drop below 1600-2000 rpm.

 

As a test to see if I had removed to much from the butterfly valve, I plugged the small hole in the butterfly valve with not change.

 

From looking at the additional area created by fileing the butterfly valve verses what the IAC should be able to compensate for this should not be a problem.

 

Any thoughts or suggestions. I am suspicious that the IAC may have a problem although no codes are set except "Idle higher than expected"

I never heard of anyone filing the throttle valve. What were you thinking? If cleaning the thottle body wouldn't fix it, a very slight adjustment on the minimum idle speed screw would have. I'd say at this point, replacing the throttle body may be necessary.

 

What's the odds your IAC suddenly has a problem it's right after you filed the throttle valve. That's a heck of a coincidence and I think those odds are probably zero.
