Buying the tuner sounds great! And its cheep $75. However im scared that it will shorten the life of the engine/trans. I have an 01 HD regulag cab and an 02 HD extended cab both have the 6.0. They are plow trucks and daily trailer pullers. We don't drive with a lead foot either. Any insite would be great.

I use my truck for work and as a daily driver also. Just tell Jesse what you want from your tune and what you use your truck for and he will set you up.

I called waitforme and spoke to someone not sure if it was Jesse or not. He said they have one tune and only one tune. Their is no hot tune or stage whatever. He said that the computer reconizes what octane your running and adjusts accordingly. They can make many other adjustments like your tire size. I wounder if you guys with larger tires like 285 75 16 are seeing your impressive mileage increacse after the tune is adjusted because you dident account for the 7.3% difference in the size when you calculate mileage before the tune. If their mods to your computer are so grate why dosent GM do them. I guarentee you that they can figure out exactly what mods waitforme of westers is doing. Makes me wounder what the side affects are from these mods.

The uncorrected mileage is going to be lower than actual with larger diameter tires because the actual distance traveled is farther.

The General tunes the pcm the way they do to meet emissions standards. I'll bet trucks with tunes don't meet the emissons standards that stock trucks do.

I bet they do!

I got an increase, a SOLID increase of 2.5mpg. I drive from home into town about 8 miles every day, I was averaging 14.5 - 15 mpg this winter. I instantly o not get anyless than 17.7 and the visits to the pump verify this. Well worth the tune!

I wonder how they achieve better gas mileage? If they make it leaner then that would increase the risk of problems I would rather not have.

you can buy an air/fuel ratio guage tester from an autoparts store, or run the engine for a bit, rpms higher than idle, then shut it off and pull a few spark plugs. check them to see if the tips are really white and such. you read spark plugs all the time on race motorcycles.

A correctly written tune will not run lean but at the most efficient A/F ratio at all rpm's and power levels. The factory tune's do run rich, leaning them out to where they should be is where some of the gains in power, economy AND cleaner emissions come from.

Not sure who you spoke to but i have two of his PCM's in my hands and one is the mileage tune, which I run all the time and I also have a "hot" tune that runs like a stripid ass ape?

Why would the auto manufacturer program it to run rich from the factory? If a tune results in better power, economy, and emmissions dont you think the automanufacterer would have already done this?

Emissions, and less wear and tear on the drivetrain.

I'm a little scared of running lean, I guess where I've been in racing. I would have to know how close they are to being too lean and if there have ever been any long term tests on what a tune does to an engine over time vs a stock tune. On another note every new model year of the same engine comes out with more horsepower and torque without changing parts to my knowledge, so I would assume some of that yearly power upgrade comes from a computer alteration.

I think the idea of saying the tuners run the engine lean is scaring everyone...I think what everyone means is it is less rich than what the factory makes it. I dont believe Jesse and Westers would release a tune that actually made the truck run lean...hopefully . My 2 cents.

I guess it does kinda scare me...simply because everyone knows lean is fast, but no one knows how lean they are going. I'm not bashing their tune, I'd just like to know how much leaner they can go before problems pop up.
