Adding XM Radio

Recommended Posts

I have a 2006 Suburban with AM/FM CD Player and Bose Speakers also with On Star. I would like to add XM using the GM kit 12498768. My salesman said the factory installed XM radios used the same "shark fin" antenna for On Star and XM. Can I install this kit and use the original On Star antenna for XM also? Does this require a splitter? Does anyone know the part number? Thanks.

You will need the combo OnStar/XM Sharkfin style antenna part # 15194280

And also the upper wiring harness part # 15292901

There are three different versions of the sharkfin style antenna, I found this out while installing OnStar in my 2006 Chevy Silverado, which came with XM only, no OnStar.

I am trying to add XM to my NBS 07 Silverado. I have the "XM Ready" radio without Onstar or an antenna. My dealer says I need to have Onstar to add the xm tuner and antenna module. Can I get the Onstar antenna and the xm upgrade kit or do I need to get a third-party XM unit?
