Tire suggestions HELP

Hey guys,

Ive got a 2003 Silverado 1500 Z71 and its time for new tires. I currently have the stock 16" rims and i am not to jumpy to replace those yet.

I am not putting a lift on yet, but i want decent sized tires so that it gives it a more "intimidating" look. I dont want really nubby tires that are loud. I am looking for tires that will do well on/off road and have an aggressive look. I also want at least a 10 Ply tire!

I AM OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS!!!

The heaviest rated tire you can get is a load range "E", which although it is sometimes called a 10-ply tire I think they are actually only 8 plies.

Going to an "E" rated tire from your stock "P" tires is a big jump. You may want to consider something in between the 2 tires like a "C" or a "D" rated tire.

I'm running Bridgestone Dueler "REVO's" on my HD and they are an "E" rated tire. They have a really cool tread pattern, and everyone who has them really seem to like them.

I'm guessing you have 265/75/16's on there from the factory, so you could jump up to a 285/75/16 and the only mods you may have to do is a couple of turns on the front torsion bars for clearance.

A coworker Replaced the 265's on his 1500 with 285-75-16 BFG All Terrains, couple turns on the torsion bars, and no rubbing. Definitely makes the truck look better, and with the recent snow, handled alot better than stock. AT's are not loud at all, and track straight down the road. All of the BFG AT's that I have had in the past had even wear, and lasted long. But I do have to agree that the Revo tread pattern is an eye catcher. Ive just always liked the BFG's.

Those are all good suggestions....just a couple questions?

Pros and Cons of cranking torsion bars?...Is it a requirement that i get new shocks after i get this done?

How much should i pay to have the Torsion bars cranked, new tires installed, and a front alinement done?

I'm looking to do prettymuch the same thing as opsbear, so I was wondering, how does one crank the torsion bars? Anyone have a how-to link or forum?

The torsion bars are very simple to adjust.

Follow the bars back from the front of the truck to where they mount in a framerail crossmember near the rear of the cab. You'll see a large bolt hanging down. Give it a few turns and then repeat on the other side. Turn both sides the same number of revolutions.

If you only need a couple of turns to get the front end lift you need, then you probably won't need an alignment. The more you turn, the more lift you'll get on the front of your truck, and the stiffer the ride will become. Unless you bottom out the bolts, I doubt you would over extend the shocks.

I love the look of the BFG KO's - my buddy just got them for his '98 Z71 and he loves them (he lives in Fairbanks, AK - so they must be good in the snow, he also had them siped). I had a set of Bridgestone Revo's on my old truck and they were hands down the best tires I've ever owned, quiet, wore nicely, good in snow and rain.

Good luck.

Yeah guys im doing the same thing trying to figure out wich tires are best. Since i work at the dealer i have alot of smartasses that know there tires and i have chosen 3 diffent ones..for my 04 z71

: Bridgeston dueller revo

:Goodyear wrangler w/silent armor

: Winston winner lt.....A private label tire from good year

So far i have seen the revo's and the winstons... the revos are hands down a awsome tread pattern but guys in the shop say after about one or two winters there done they dont last the way they sappose to...they also have Lt tires wich if you read bridgestones site Lt tires do not apply to the 50,000 treadwear warranty.

The winston wich i just got really cheap are not bad looking but look more like a {bfg..Comercial trac t/a} w/ a closer tread pattern...not very good for relasing snow or mud...

See i want a tire that has off-road in mind but highway speeds capability, wich seems to be d**n near impossibe. The goodyears ill have to get back to you all on tommorw but they just look mean..who know how well they work never been a big goodyear fan..

on my 2000 sierra 4x4 i put BF Goodrich All terrain TA KO and i cranked the torsion bars up and i love the tires and by cranking up the t bars it made the truck look alot better

I thought about the silent Armor's on my ride, but they're pretty new without lots of reviews on them. They were also the same or more than the Revo's when I looked around. I had 54k on the Revos when I replaced them. I likely could have gotten more life had I decided on a good pressure to run them at vs. changing it a few times.

Take a look at the General AT Grabber 2. The tread pattern is VERY similar to the BFG T/A KO which cost a good bit more than the General tire. These tires look and perform awesome and nothing out there compares for the price. I have searched and research tires for 2 months. Oh yea, They are 10 ply and they carry a 640 tread wear 60k mile warranty as well.

You might want to check Dean Wildcats. Their tread is similar to Revo's fairly cheap and last 50K. Here's a link.Wildcat

A friend of mine has these on his Toyota and they are quite and wear well. I'd like to hear if anyone else has these and what they think.
