I just bought a 2006 chevy 1500 with a 4.8. I was looking at the throttle body and there is a peice of foam under it. Is it suppose to be there or not? It seems to me that it would be a fire hazard.

i thought that was funny to begin with too. The green foam sponge. It's at the front and back. It should be there. Never got a good answer about it though. It keeps debris from getting under the intake on top of the engine valley cover. I would say it also keeps hot air from the engine from getting underneath the bottom of the intake manifold to keep the air charge cooler. You have the knock sensors under there that go through the engine valley cover.
