This is one of the most horrific crashes I have seen. I feel for Dana's family and friends and all those drivers who have to get in their cars this afternoon and somehow not think about this.

It is amazing that they both werent killed.

An absolutely terrible ending to a promising career (not to mention, a promising life).

I don't really agree with the whole "the show must go on" deal. I think the race should've been postponed. If the crash and the Race weren't on the same day I'd feel differently.

Totally sucks. :seeya:

It's just so sad.

Me and my buddy just sat down in our seats at Bristol today to enjoy the NASCAR race there when we heard about the accident on the scanner,Sad news for sure.

I watched the replays on SPEED and just thinking about how fast the impact was on contact just gives me the shivers! What was Dana's spotter doing for the 8 seconds that passed before contact?

You know..I thought the exact same thing. They said 200 mph. Is that so fast that 8 seconds isnt' enough? Thats my only logical thinking. Anyone remember how to convert mph to ft/sec. I tried but I got 1,056,000 ft/sec. That cna't be right.

I got 293.33 ft/sec....

200 miles/1 hr x 1 hr/60 min x 1 min/60sec x 5280 ft/1mi

YAY for conversions

So 8 seconds and he was about 2400 feet away, almost half a mile....

I wonder what the hoizon view is on those low cars that they sit even lower in, especially with high bank turns.

ah ok I was close. I had the min/sec backwards. Sounds like plenty of time to me..

It can't be but so far.

The one time I ran over 100mph in a vehicle (it was an emergency) I was sh*tting myself cause I had trouble with distance/depth perception on the cars I was approaching/passing until I was almost right up on them.

I can't fathom how depth/distance perception comes into play when you're running in the 200s.
