03-06 Silverado's Front License Plate holder

Hello everyone, wondering if anyone has solutions/ideas/ same problem as myself. I am looking for a molded license plate frame for the front of the truck. The state of Wisconsin requires a front plate. I have not found any yet besides the generic straight frame holder that sits at an angle while it rubs on the lower plastic cowl.

The styles and years of 88-98 Chevy Silverado's had a front plate holder molded that fit perfect for the front bumper. Has anyone see one like that but for the new Style Chevy's?

I heard of people using spacers to bring the license plate out a bit but am wondering if you guys have any other solutions.

Thanks for the input.

Go to the GM dealer you bought it from and ask for the plate holder for your truck. GM makes one for states that require front plates. It sticks out from the front bumper 4 inches os so and conforms to the profile of the bumper. I ended up chucking mine because the Extra 4 inches made my bumper hit the drywall in the garage (very tight fit).

My dealer gave me one for mine when I bought it new and I am in a state that does not require one.

I wish the moderators could make this request for a front plate holder source as a sticky. Seems it comes up every two weeks or so.

Go to Wal-Mart's automotive section. Look for Bell license plate holders. These are about $3.00, are flat and don't stick out---fit behind your plate. Also, get about eight washers with four per top screw to get the plate to come out a bit.

Works perfectly---cheap. Some dealers throw these in for free.

I bought one from the dealer for the same year (2005) GMC truck as mine. It's molded black plastic and I had to install it upside down to fit the Chevy bumper but it looks pretty d**n good. I'd attach a pic of it but I don't know how.

They make one for the GMC's,But not for the Chevy's (They only make them for the "SS's" and the early '03's that had the holes close together)

Front plates are retarded. The only reason I've ever been able to understand is to give the cops a flat place to shoot you with radar. So glad I don't live in a state taht requires one.

that would be great not to be required to run with front license plates

is to give the cops a flat place to shoot you with radar.

A VW Beetle (using this as an example cause it's quite round in shaped)with NO front plate will be picked up on radar just as quick as your truck with a front plate.

How do ya think the radar they use to get MPH of baseball pitches works when the ball has not one flat spot on it ??!!

I think he was thinking of lydar (sp?). If I understand it correctly, lydar is basically a lazer that has to bounce straight back to the gun (that's why they aim it like a gun).

I'm no profesional, but that's how I think it works.

I don't think Lidar would be much different.

Here's a write up I found on the 'puter of how it works.

Doppler lidar is used to measure the velocity of a target. When the light transmitted from the lidar hits a target moving towards or away from the lidar, the wavelength of the light reflected/scattered off the target will be changed slightly. This is known as a Doppler shift - hence Doppler Lidar. If the target is moving away from the lidar, the return light will have a longer wavelength (sometimes referred to as a red shift), if moving towards the lidar the return light will be at a shorter wavelength (blue shifted). The target can be either a hard target or an atmospheric target - the atmosphere contains many microscopic dust and aerosol particles which are carried by the wind. These are the targets of interest to us as they are small and light enough to move at the true wind velocity and thus enable a remote measurement of the wind velocity to be made.

If it can be used for atmospheric measurments, I'd think it would work on a vehicle of any shape/contour.

I believe it was on Myth Busters that most any type of "tricks" to avoid speed detection tools were pretty much as useless as any of the products that are said to greatly improve fuel economy.

The older speed detectors that were first used could be tricked into give false readouts, but that was the days when your typical computer filled an entire room.

I have a 2003 1500HD and not having a front plate holder bothered me, so here is what I did. I bought an all steel generic front plate holder from GM partsdirect. I then had it linexed. I then installed it using 2 plasctic spacers behind the top 2 scews. this made the final insall perpendicular to the ground. Cost to linex was $10 and all steel holder was about $20.
