94 Tranny problems

I've got a 94 Silverado, 2x4 automatic, 4.3L vortec with 182k on it and my transmision is saying "see ya" No slipping but it slams hard into 2nd gear and not as hard throughout. I took it to a shop and they drove it for about 3 minutes and said it's shot. Something about both solinoids are slamming and replacing those won't fix the problem. I need a full rebuild.

Looks like I'm gonna have to have it rebuilt. Any suggestions on ways or products to prolong the life of the rebuilt tranny so I can worry more about fishing??? It's a good truck, giving me 22 miles to the gallon and a place to sleep near the fishing holes. Thanks for any info.

I would not go back to that shop. Did they check it for codes? Some codes can boost line pressure to the max. causing hard shifting. Solenoids slamming??? Come on, that is BS. All solenoids do is shut off and on. There is no in between! Do yourself a favor and take it to a GM dealer and get it checked out. If it is burnt up I would not rebuild at that mileage, I would replace. A GM SERTA comes with a 3 year 50,000 mile warranty (that is actually honored).

Yea, I'd probably replace it myself.

I couldn't help but notice..you get 22 MPG?? How exactly do you manage that? Is that HWY driving? I have the same truck (94 RCSB 4.3) and with a fresh tune and Magnaflow exhaust system the best I've ever recorded is about 19-20.
