Rear vibration after 35" tires

I had a 6" lift put on my 2005 Sierra in March. When I had it done the installer warned about the possibility of a vibration from the rear end when braking. I have been running my stock wheels and tires since then and no problems, thought I just got lucky Yesterday I finally got my 35" tires and new wheels and had them mounted and when I got on the brakes I felt the vibration from the rear. It only happens when braking and it is pretty bad. To explain the vibration, it kinda feels like warped rotors feel when braking. My truck has rear drum brakes and the installer seems to think that this is the problem. The other times that he has had this happen has been on 05's with rear drums. Has anyone else had this problem or know if there is a fix or anything? It is bad enough that I am considering going back to my stock rims and tires if I can't get it worked out.

Dang, sorry to hear that.

I would switch to heavy duty rotors and calipers.

does it also do it on acceleration? I had a buddy that got a 6 inch lift with blocks in the back instead of new springs and his did it on tske off and during braking. He swithed to springs and it stopped, but his had 4 wheel disc brakes, so it very well could be the drums. But when I had my 1997 running 35s I never had that problem, but all I had was a Bodylift.

I haven't noticed it on acceleration, I will have to check now. My lift has four inch blocks and an add a leaf.

Chances are that the problem was there all along, larger tires really magnify the problem. Just a note, I don't think that this is related to your problem but may help others, I had a truck that all of a sudden picked up a bad vibration, but only when I would hit a bump in the road, it would shake like crazy for the next couple of miles, it would aslo happen while braking. Turns out after repeated trips to the shop, (front end and brakes were checked) that I had stopped by one of those quarter air compressors that you see at convienance stores and had promptly filled one of my tires with water. While I was driving on a smooth road the water would be evenly distributed and ride smooth, I could hit a bump and whammo, vibration. Just thought you guys would find this interesting.

OK...now that is a story to tell...haha...i cant say i have done that one, but i will make sure to double check what is going in my tires,...

It could be tire tread too, i have somewhat of a "vibration" but i think its the tread on the tires, because its kinda relative to the speed im going.

Was told to try removing the round clips on the studs that hold the drum on. Apparently these clips don't allow aftermarket wheels to set properly against the drum. Removed the clips, no vibration. Would have never guessed that this would have been the problem. Glad that it was such an easy fix.

Was told to try removing the round clips on the studs that hold the drum on. Apparently these clips don't allow aftermarket wheels to set properly against the drum. Removed the clips, no vibration. Would have never guessed that this would have been the problem. Glad that it was such an easy fix.

I just had some new wheels installed this weekend and was asking the guy why he was removing those little clips, guess they knew what they were doing. No problems here.
