Z-71 Third Member Fluid

My 97 is just turning 100K and want to change out the rear end fluid. The local auto parts says he's got the 'correct oil" but if it didn't work and caused grabbing, he's got some additive. What's with that?!? Is the dealer the only place to get the right stuff? This is a small town, so auto parts is pretty much limited to the AutoZone/Schucks types and one GM dealer.

do you have a limited slip? If so, he's talking about an additive to reduce the friction. You can buy rear diff fluid with the additive pre-mixed. Look at valvoline 75W150 and it will have it (synthetic).

I would go to the dealer and get the real deal. It is not expensive. It is called friction modifier.
