Lifted Trucks

Im seriously debating putting a 6" RCD kit under my Tahoe..only problem...I commute alot for a college kid...I dont want to lose all gas mileage...I plan on getting a power programmer to adjust the speedo...so...my question is this...I've heard...35's...with like 4.56 gears will get better mileage than stock (gears and stock ride height)..local lift shop said that he got 10 mpg on his Z71 before he put 4.56's vs. the 3.73's that were in it and now he gets 20ish..i find this physically speaking impossible...ive had friends with quick stangs (isnt that an oxymoron)...all there motors ran at higher RPMs...especially highway..which my driving will be done on...can some explain this too me...is it totaly opposite with lifted trucks...overcompenstaiton for bigger tires?...or...is this guy is just tryin to talk me into the lift...thanks yall...

I can't imagine that you would get better milage mainly due to the fact that your truck will be sitting higher and there will be more wind resistance.

The gear change will definatly help.  And the reprogramming of the speedo and shift points will help too.  But a think you will get a few mpg's less than what you are getting stock.

Im about done breaking in my new gears and will get a mileage reading on my next full tank.

It seems a bit better tho, but dont have any numbers yet.

Pros (IMO):

Better gears allows for less throttle to get the truck moving either from a stand still, or highway speeds.

Cons:

Higher RPM's, and since its lifted, you get more wind resistance anyway.

Ill get back wicha!
