Steering Column Assembly

I am repairing my steering column after a theft, and once I started digging into it, I realized the casting that holds everything together was busted.

Does anyone know what this piece is called and how hard it might be to replace?

That is called the bearing housing. Some might call it something else but I "think" that is what you need to ask for. At the center bottom you will see a plug with a square hole. I use a Phillips screwdriver to push down and turn about 1/8 turn to the left and it will pop up about 1 inch. That is the spring for you tilt. You will need this TOOL or equivalent to pull the pivot pins on each side of the bearing housing. All I can tell you is to go slow and MOST important, test each operation as you go back together, dimmer, turn signals, key turn to start, ect

Oh yeah I forgot to tell you that after the pins are pulled you will need to pull back on the tilt lever to get the bearing housing off.

Thanks muchly! I appreciate that. One more question if I may. This picture also shows a rod(?) that goes into the column. It has a crook in it. Can you tell me what it is for and where it goes?

Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge.

That is the lock pin that locks the wheel when you shut the key off. When you set the plastic housing that goes over the bearing housing the lock pin fits through a hole in the plastic housing. The pin should move up and down about a 1/2 inch as you move the key from off to run.
