Override door locks

They are about to drive me crazy!!!!

According to the manual, there is no way to override the door lock system. I DO NOT want the doors to lock automatically. The nature of my work lends to me or a passenger getting quickly to snap a picture. Its so aggravating having to unlock every time. It's not huge, but aggravates the crap out of me.

The seat belt alarm. Well, yes its the law to wear a seat belt in SC, but as stated above, I have to get out frequently sometimes, and I dont put the seatbelt back on just to go 2 houses down. That annoying ding, ding, ding is driving me up the wall!!!

My question is... Can these things be overridden?

My truck is a 2006 silverado crew cab. It does not have the DIC package. I am seriously considering trading my truck and going to another brand name because of this.

Please help

Start lookin, dude. Can't be overridden unless you want to disable your power locks completely by removing the fuse.

I can disable the locking my 2003 but I have the DIC controls on the steering wheel. I can't believe there isn't some secret magic to turn that off.

When I had my 99 GMC and also when I bought my 02 GMC the salesman at the dealership said that they can disable the auto lock feature but it was going to cost over $100 to do it. I do not know if they were just saying it to hear themselves talk or if they actually could do it. As far as the seat belt ding I thought all the chimes were controlled by the radio?

Cant they reprogram the BCM thing? I had them do that to my 99. The doors would look after I think 15 or 20 MPH, then wouldnt unlock when I stopped or turned the truck off. You look like a retard when going on a fire call and arent even able to get out of your own truck! :D Dont know if you can do this with a 2006, just a thought though. On the seat belt thing, why not just disconnect the wire to your seat. Im not sure which one it is under there. I have a few, probably for the airbag passenger detection (passenger side only), and power/heated seats. Again...just more thoughts hopefully that help.,

Hello everyone. This is my first post. But I came searching the internet for answers to these exact questions. I've been driving Ford and Dodge trucks for years. Just picked up a new Silverado and I can't get used to all this electronic stuff that you can't disable! Seatbelt reminder, auto door locks, auto head lamps, etc. are all very annoying features, and GM trucks are the only ones I've ever seen that you can't turn them off in. I'm very frustrated with that and if anyone knows of a way please post!

Off-Rd, you probably just sold a hundred or so Fords and Dodges. GM, are you listening?

Yeah, I mean so far I really like the Silverado. Don't get me wrong. But last weekend I took my wife to a drive-in movie and everytime she would open her door to get out (go to the restroom or whatever) the auto-headlights would come on and blind the people in front of me. How embarrasing. I couldn't figure out how to turn them off. What an annoying feature. And it's like these guys said...when you are out on the farm or whatever and you are just riding from place to place and don't need your seatbelt, it's annoying to have to listen to that stupid chime all day. And it's also very annoying for the passengers to have to reach for the door locks constantly. Just plain annoying.

These features would all be bad enough on a car, but they are particularly annoying on a pickup truck...a vehicle intended to be used for work.

All my Fords and Dodges had these features also, which was great because it showed that those companies have safety in mind. BUT, both Ford and Dodge clearly explain in the owners manual how to turn those features off if you are somebody who doesn't need them. I just can't believe that there is NO way to turn this stuff off on a GM truck.

I'm pretty happy with the truck so far overall...but it's a shame to have things like that keep you from "loving" the truck. Esp. with the sticker prices these days.

My truck has 300 miles on it and it's in the shop for the second time today because of a vibration problem...when I pick it up today I'll ask the service manager and make sure there is no way to disable these things.

2003. I have full control of the locking options in my 2003 Sierra through the steering wheel buttons.

That *can* be disabled, I think. Talk to your service manager.

Just in case anything's changed in the past few months, if they *can* disable the auto door locks now, be sure and let us know. It wasn't possible a few months ago.

Well, I took it by for an oil change(I have 5000 miles) There is nothing that they can do. Like someone said, I lke my truck, but i dont "love" my truck. I loved my 2000 4x4.

GM sucks now. I should have bought a Tundra when I had the chance. I'll probably take a huge hit because of all the recent GM rebate crap lowering the Chevy trade value so much. I'll have to see. Sorry GM, but I wont be back!!!!

Thanks for all your help here.
