New to the site (and GM products)

Like what I see here at GM trucks.com!

Is it just me, or are other people confused about GMs terminology regarding their cargo bed descriptions and lengths! So far, we have:

Sportside

Wideside

Fleetside

Stepside (the one that I do understand)

Flareside?

So how do I know which one I have? When I go to order bed accessories, ie (bed rails, liners, etc.) I often get confused by the listings and don't want to order the wrong part. I do know that I have a 2005 extended cab w/ about 6.5 feet of bed space and no stepside. (equally square box shape)

I have checked the gmc website but that doesn't tell me much. which box type do I have? Thanks alot for any info.

I think that for the 2005 model year there is only one bed configuaration, and that is fleetside. the other terms may be applicable to older trucks.

Okay, heres what i know...

Stepside, the old single wall bed with the wheel wells outside the cargo box. The newer trucks are double wall, but the box is shaped to look like an old box. don't see too many of those anymore.

Fleetside was the GM term for the double wall box with the smooth outside walls around oh.... starting around i dunno 1969, 1970?

For todays trucks...

RCSB Reg. cab, short box 6.5 foot long box

RCLB Reg. cab, long box 8.0 foot long box

ECSB Extended cab, short box 6.5 foot box (this is the cab with little doors in the back the only open when the front door is open)

ECLB Extended cab, long box, (Rare to see these, but there out there..) This has the 8 foot box

I think all the crew cabs (4 regular doors) have there own size box, thats like 6 foot, but these are so much money i never really looked at them.

1500 light duty series crew cabs come with a 5'8" bed. 1500 HD have 6.5 ft bed. 2500 and 3500 heavy duty crew cabs come with either a 6.5 or 8 ft bed. All 3500 duallies have an 8 ft bed.

Yea, Flareside and Stepside are the exact same thing. Flareside was Ford's term for it starting 1994 I believe. I thought they were ugly and I thought the Flare Side badging was a little retarded. I think badges should be left for engine designation or specific package (LS, LT, ZR-1 ect).

GM is dropping the Stepside as of 2006 I believe. I plan to keep mine as long as I can. I have a couple ideas for a 454 and what not in the future. Could be a neat truck.

Its gets even more confusing for '06 guys.

Although GM dropped the stepside bed for '06 you can now get the 5ft.8in. "shorty-short-bed" (the same one on the 1/2 ton crew-cabs) on the 1/2 ton ext.cab trucks starting this year.

So now GM calls the 5ft.8in. bed the "short-bed",They call the 6ft.5in. bed the "regular-bed".They do however still call the 8ft. bed the "long-bed"
