hey gang.

just got back from picking up wife's car. is a base 2005 Malibu sedan. I noticed the front end vibrated pretty bad when the brakes were applied, even worse on the turnpike to slow down. Knew the rotors were warped.

Took the car into the dealer (the car just turned 10,000 miles!!) and sure enough, they said the rotors were warped. One of the techs said, that GM would rather have them turn the rotors rather than replace them..

I was shocked! Brand new car, just over 10,000 miles and already, the front rotors needed turning. I forgot to ask what the pads looked like.

I wonder how long I have before they go bad again, that, and the ones on my truck.

Anybody else have similiar experiences.?

Just an FYI:

Did you know BMW reccommends AGAINST turning rotors? appearenlty the process itself makes the rotors more succeptable to warping.

If it were me, i would have gone ahead and gotten upgraded rotors and pads. But according to the tech I talked with at the dealership, GM recommends turning (if possible) before replaceing.

Just another way to save a buck I suppose.

Yea, I've heard the same thing myself. That to me really shows what manufactures still have money saving on their minds. Thats BMW for you. Probably always be one of the best buys anyone can make.

did u say u bought this car used with 10 grand on the miles , well did u ever think that the previous owner maybe had to dodge something really quick , or stop really quick, i know on my last silverado, i warped them a lil bit from trying to stop really quick, i was in wv at night and didnt see this sharp curve and had to slam on the brakes to keep from goin over a cliff, and i could feel the brakes get mushy and soft , and after that they were warped a bit , maby the previous owner got them really hot, my mom has a 05 malibu with 25 grand on it and no brake probs, taker easy

Actually, the GM service manuals recommends against turning. Run-out measurement check is required as well.

But, personally, if it were mine, I also would scrap these and replace them with PowerSlots. I had some issues with my local "dealer" and after several warranty fixes that lasted only about three months per fix, I just gave up and purchased the PowerSlots. This was on a Grand Am.

It was expensive, but that little car stopped like a sports coup for months until we traded it in.

Ive got a set of cheap Chinese-made rotors that I bought at Autozone for $20 a piece on my F-150. Its been almost a year and so far they are holding up.

I would have liked slotted rotors, but at $20 for the cheapies vs $150 for the slotted ones, you can see why I went with the cheapies.

Well, thats a new one. Parents have had 2 Malibu's now, both we're bought new..

First one: Well, problems from the begining. 2004 Malibu Max, Silver. We had enough of it, and by the time it racked up 24,000 miles, we had a huge problem. Going down the interstate it decided it was going to lock up the left front brake, turn hard right, and kill all eletronics inside the car (That was hard to keep off the barrier)...once the dealer saw what it had done (warped the rotor and all), well, lets just say GM bought that one back. ;)

Second one: Gold 2005 Max - 26k miles, good car. They really got it right on this go around.

We've had the Maxx's, but then again, the only diffrence in the malibu's are the size..as far as Im aware of. Just go up to autozone, and do it yourself. GM is very hard to get to do anything (Take the example of my parents hybrid truck that lost it's hydroboost in indiana)....
