Tires, Tires and more Tires

Hey guys,

We've been talkin' about tires quite a bit lately and my BFG Land Terrains don't have too much life in them left. I discovered that those are Wal-mart only so I'm not really interested in going wiht another set.

I'm looking for something wiht a little more aggressive tread with good wear and great wet weather handling. My truck is purely a road truck, but I want something thats strong and isn't gonna tear up on a rock something.

I've kinda checked out BFG Radial Long Trails, and BFG Rugged Trail, but I have heard bad things about the Rugged Trail on TireRacks web page. They claim very poor wet weather, and in Houston I can't really ahve that.

Thanks a lot fellas

I would try Michelin LTX M/S. I have had three sets over the years, and love 'em.

Can those be purchased P and LT? Should I get the LT set? How many ply?

I have 235-75-15, and I noticed there are 3 different tires for that size on Tire Rack. Two of them are XL, but the main difference is the lettering. I'd def white outline white.

You can get them LT, I usually get load rance C because I dont tow/haul much, but you can get Load range E also. The LTX M/S will last a LONG time. Check out tirerack.com, they have some good info and check out their surveys etc.

I like the BFG AT tires. I have had a couple sets and love them. They are great on wet roads and especially snow. Given that you live in Texas, you will be prepared for those severe winter snow storms?? LOL

At any rate, they last a long time, ride and drive well and provide excellent traction.

see...those are really friggin' cool lookin', but I coudln't really justify them on a 2WD truck that never sees anything but pavement. Woudl you still consider the AT considering that?? That was actually the tire I wanted originally.

I cant offer any advise other then that bfg makes a d**n good tire, they also have a very good on road presence as well as being great in weather conditions.I have had them on my trucks all the way back to my 89 s10 baja and have had 0 tire related issues, only time they have come off is for a new set after about 60k or so.

I didn't know you have a 2wd truck, but I have seen them on 2wd vehicles before. With the positive experience I have with them, I would put them on a 2wd model. Just keep them rotated and they will perform very well for you.

oh yea, I love my Land Terrains, I just don't care for Wal-mart service.

I think I have it narrowed down:

1) Michellin LTX MS

2) Goodyear Fortera Triple Tred (highest rated wet weather)

3) Bridgestone REVO

4) BFG AT

5) BFG Radial Long Trail TA

I really dig the REVOs and ATs, but there both on the high side. Any positive or neg feed back on any of these is much appriciated. Keeping in mind I'll be 100% street driving and 2WD.

If you look at the Fortera's there no much mileage to go along with the survey responses like there is with the Michelin LTX's. I was debating on the Revo's too, but read on here that since they have a more agressive tread, can be a bit noisier. I drive mostly on the freeway, so prefer a quieter tire. (if you can get the search function to work on here, check out the past posts on LTX vs REVO's.

good point. Noise was something I Was kinda concerned about too. I noticed the low mileage on the Fortera's myself...kinda iffy.

EDIT...I read a couple posts on just how quiet the REVOs were and one on how noisy. I guess everyone has their own opinions of noise. I have a Magnaflow system dumped at my bed so theres already a decent amount of cab drone  , but it sounds great outside the cab.
