01 Suburban W/ Autoride

I am wondering if there is any 'known' issues with the Autoride system on the 01-02 Subs.  I have not noticed the compressor working for a couple of weeks now and it seems to me that almost everytime the vehicle was started, the compressor would kick in for about at least 5 seconds.  Has anyone else experienced any troubles with this, and does anyone have any ideas on where to start troubleshooting this issue.  Is there a way to manually cycle the compressor to make sure that it is still in working order and possibly narrow down the problem(compressor, sensor, ect...)?   It is a 01 Suburban 4X4 LT with 55,000 miles. Thanks.

Hey now that you mention it in recent memory I haven't heard my 01 Tahoe's AutoRide compressor kick on at startup either.  I sure do remember it doing that when I first got it.  I'll be hauling some peeps next weekend and so will try to check it out.

My "service autoride" light came on.  Dealer said it was a bad sensor. Having it replaced this week.  Dealer said that with the autoride not functioning that it would not harm the Suburban.  I've towed over 500 miles with the autoride disabled and I've noted no problems.

minnow,

So, there is a light on the dash that comes on if the sensor seems to find a problem with the 'Autoride'??  I have been paying special attention to this on the Suburban when I start it and have noticed that it is still working, I just must have gotten used to hearing it and stopped hearing it.....  Funny how that works, hu?

I have since heard the compressor run many times at startup.   I think it is just a noise that is easy to get used to hearing.  I wonder if you could just unplug one of the sensors to see if ya get a warning light?
