I had to null vote on each because I don't have the tick/knock. I use synthetic (5W30).

50,000 plus on a 2002 4.8 and no tick/knock. I change my oil every time the change oil light comes on with 10x30 mobil 1 with a mobil 1 filter. Mobil 1 has been my oil of choice for over ten years and think it is worth every penny!

I have the tick/knock but it is intermittant.  I havent heard it in awhile probably since march.

they all have some unique sounds and this topic seems to have a cult like following. there is a site that wants GM's head on a platter, i don't want to promote it at all, but this guy/group or whatever is fit to be tied.  I am curious if any of the motors have failed because of the noises and how this plays out.

2003 5.3L no knock. Started as low as 24 degrees.

Ticked on me for the first time last week.  If it's cold/cool outisde, it does it for about ten seconds.

03 2500 HD 6.0 No tick. No Knock. I have a friend who owns an  02 silverado with the 6.0. He has put over 60,000mi. on it and no noise yet.

Neither my 5.3 or my 6.0 tick/knock, however one of my friends' 5.3 does on occasion however he just crossed the 100,000 mile mark problem free.   I use mobil1 5w-30 and he uses natural oil

Just rolled 50,000 on my '01 5.3

 

It ticks/knocks just about every morning, worse when it's cold. I've always used Mobile1 5w-30 full synthetic.  For the filter, I've used both Mobile1 and AC/Delco with no noticeable difference in how/when/where/long it ticked.  

 

By now I don't really pay attention to it.  Don't know if it's a sign of something detrimental happening in the motor, but with 50,000 flawless miles I do not let it bother me.

 

BRING ON THE NEXT 50,000! :thumb:

4.8 no tick no knock 25K miles.

 

Plenty of zip for a 2wd.  Mileage is super.
