Do K&N filters let more dirt pass by?

I would really love to figure out if K&N really lets more dirt pass by it. I have seen some test but the person that was testing them had skewed the test by using a diffrent type of dirt for testing. If anybody has any proof that K&N is letting more dirt into my engine i would love to know. TIA :uhoh:

More dirt then the factory filter...yes, this I know. The question I have is how much more?

Do an oil annalysis with one and then again without one and you will see a significant increase in the levels of Silicate/Silicone, (sand and dirt). Is it too much? I cannot answer that for your truck. For mine, any "additional dirt" is not acceptable to me.

 

For the small benefit (if any) of a drop in unit, I personally do not feel they are worth the risk.

 

Of course, this subject has been and will be debated until we are all old and grey and sitting on the front porch in our rockers.

biggest problem here is we have a lime kiln in town. very fine white stuff gets everywere and in everything. their also building the as they claim the biggest cement plant up the road. i go with maxium filtration.

 

theirs also the old saying gotta pay to play.

Now if i were in this case where i could have lime and concrete dust constantly being sucked in by my air cleaner i would most definatly stick with oe. But for regualr dirt and such there really isnt much dust and dirt floating around where i live and keep doing my oil changes every 3k I think everything should be ok.

I agree...I think some are putting waaaay too much into this.

I wouldn't run one in dirty conditions either and I've run alot of K&N's on different vehicles for many miles and no prob's whatsoever.

Does it let more dirt in? Yes

Will it run better and get better MPG? Yes

Is it enough to matter? No but, that's my take.

I have used both the K&N FIPK and the Airaid on my truck. I found with the K&N I had a very thin film of dirt on the TBI, however this problem was eliminated when I switched to the Airaid. Airaid supposedly uses an extra layer of synthetic material in their filters. So far I haven't had any problems or thin films of dirt on my TBI.
