Sunroof's

Im thinking of having a Webasto Hollandia 790 inbuilt power sunroof put into my 06 silverado ext cab. There is a shop here local to me that will put one in for about $1100. I know friends that have had other work done by this shop and they seem to do good work. Anyone ever have one of these put in? How did it come out? any leaks problems etc? Any other advice?

My friends i have mentioned this too all think im crazy and its just going to leak and give me nothing but fits.

I really want a sunroof pretty bad. I wish i had gotten the factory one in the truck but since i bought off the lot i was kind of limited, i just didnt have the time to wait to order one with it. I looked all over my area for one with a roof and the dealers here just dont seem to order them with one. I only found one but it was a 2wd and wanted and got a 4wd.

I thought about getting one as well. But over the years, I have seen quite a few people put "after market" or I should say "after the factory" sunroofs in and I have yet to see one that hasn't had some problem with leaking. Not to say that the installers did the installation wrong...just makes me wonder whats so different about putting it in at the factory, other than maybe they put it in while other pieces are out of the way, making for a clean, weathertight install. Maybe find some other people this place did installs for and see how they like them so far.

Factory sunroofs have a built-in trough (water drain channel) with drains and drain tubes running under the interior trim to drain water outside the vehicle. I am not sure how can they duplicate this by installing an aftermarket sunroof. It would require extensive vehicle modification. With an aftermarket sunroof I would also be worried about the parts availability if they quit making that particular model (and this happens). For me, it is either a factory installed sunroof, or none. I might make an exception on some old cheap car to have a manual flip-up roof installed, but that would be a rare exception. Power aftermarket sunroof - no way I would do that.

I wasnt aware of that, thanks for the info. I figured they did something while putting it together that aftermarket companies weren't able to do, easily anyway.

I have that model( iis it the one the sides into the roof) since Nov 04, and it has been great so far

They have a lifetime warrenty on the roof parts and labour better warrenty then factory

We had a huge sunroof installed on our 2003 Impala. I was very happy with it. It wasnt a factory add-on either. It has never leaked and looks awesome. It was 900 i think with labor.

Edit - Our was a Webasto as well. Quality product.
