trans slip on occasion?

2002 Chevy Avalanche, 1500, Z71, build date June 4, 2001 (very early production)

On a rare occasion (once every two or three months) when I start from a stop sigh or stop light the trans feels like it is slipping, the truck doesn't move much, and I instinctivly lift my gas foot and try again and all works fine. Someone else here at work (2001 or 2002 1500 Silverado) has the same problem. I am a two footed driver, but do not think that I have my foot on the brake at the same time as I am giving the gas. Any ideas?

Thanks

There is a known issue with the transmission slipping every once in a while. Mine will do it if it is hot and I go from backing reverse to drive. Knock on wood no problems with the tranny at 86k.

My 03' does the same thing. The dealer thought I was crazy.....go figure.

Mine likes to try to start off in second sometimes before itfinally shifts to first. I hate GM automatics.

I am so releaved to hear from you guys. My truck (2004 Sierra) does the same thing only about every 6 months. Does a little stutter when taking off from a stop or as I've found, turning right from a stop. GM dealer reprogrammed the PCM for me but couldn't verify the problem.

I've had one occasion when going in reverse. I drove for about 3.5hrs and when I got to my destination i was parking and the truck didn't want to more in reverse.

I am so glad I'm not the only one and not crazy.

Question- why does this slip not through any codes?

if my temp gets up just a tick over where its supposed to be the trans slips and sends the pcm into the full pressure mode i just stop for about 10 mins restart and it goes away but at 170k ive figured ive been on borrowed tome for awhile now

Mine would start in 2nd after stopping at a light, then a little gas and it would downshift. It did this very rarely...like a few times a year. At 140K I had the trans completely rebuilt (FLT Level 4) and it still does it with about the same regularity. BTW, the built trans has a Transgo HD2 shift kit so no, it does not fix it. Never happens enough to worry about if you ask me.

Ha! The service bulletin says only a small % of trucks experience this. I'd guess that it only takes a small % of idiots to ruin GM engineering's reputation with denials like this.

maybe it isn't slipping.

somebody else in this thread was hitting on the truck not always wanting to go into first gear.

My truck has lots of miles on it and when it would get good and hot after a long drive, sometimes it wouldn't go back into 1st range, was starting out in 2nd which makes it seem like a dog.

I removed tranny pan and checked both the shift solenoids, they ohmed out OK, so I cleaned them because they had a buildup of metal particles on them. its been OK ever since.

I've been in a car with server slippage and what I speak of isn't this. My grandmothers car had slippage so bad that the hood would bounce.

The truck is a very subtle slip that when it does it you get that adrenline rush and ask WTF was that? But then it won't do it for 6 or 8 months and you forget about it. I almost wonder if it is a gear selection problem and the truck isn't sure what gear to be in?

The dealership reprogrammed the PCM for me and updated a body control program. Not sure if this will fix it, but it is so rare that I won't know for a while.
