Anyone put 8 or 10 ply tires on a 1/2 ton?

My wifes 2003 Yukon Denali 265/70r17 Goodyears are junk after 34000 miles and I have been looking at new takeoffs, I found a set of Michelin 265/70R17 LTX A/S for reasonable and was wondering about the heavy duty 10 ply tire on a 1/2 ton all wheel drive vehicle. I realize it will be stiffer but it's too soft anyway. Any experience would be appreciated.

It will ride extremely harsh due to the stiff sidewall. Plus MPG will suffer due to the excessive weight of an 10 ply tire compared to a 4 or 6 ply.

I think you would hate them especially if this is your wife's truck. She will complain and that makes your life rough.

If you want a great upgrade for that denali go with the Michelin LTX M/S in a C rating. They are a little pricey but last 75K +.

Thats what I put on my pickup and they are great, I will probably go with the LTX A/S for her car.

On my 99 1/2 ton I had ordered a set of Kelly AWR's that were only 4 ply. To my benefit, they sold them out from under me, and gave me 8 ply for the same price. I was very happy with them. I didn't really notice much of a difference in driving, though I'm probably not as picky as some others. The truck still rode really nice, and I Had the added benefit of having a thicker tire for less punctures. Dont know if this really helps you, hopefully it does :ughdance:

I put a set of Cooper A/t load range E on my 00 1/2 ton work truck and hated them from the time i drove the truck out of the tire changing bay. The installers set the tire pressure at 80 lbs and it was very harsh. Over the next week i kept letting air out of the tires and finally got them down to about 38 lbs. It still rode very rough but if i went lower they would wear uneven. I would never do it again. It doesnt benifit anything. Dont go over a D load range in a 1/2 ton.

I had LT265/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler AT/S Load Range "D" 8 Plys on my '99 K1500 and loved them,I kept them inflated to around 36 psi all the way around and the truck still rode nice and smooth and I got over 50,000 miles on them.

I had Michelin LTX M/S 10 ply E range on my '99 Sierra and loved them. I now have Bridgestone Revo 10ply and love them even more. I would never use anything but an LT tire on a truck.

I'm running Es on my 2500 and they're not bad at all. But then, I grew up with trucks that had a rough ride, because trucks aren't supposed to be luxury cruisers, they're supposed to ride rough w/o weight in the back.
