Interested in what components make the truck into a 'Z83' or 'Z85' designation?

Does the factory have to do it or can it be done by the 'ShadeTree' mechanic?

You don't see them much...

The only difference between the Z83 and Z85 is the shocks,Thats it.

Z83 is the base suspension package and Z85 is the "heavy-duty" suspension package, but the only difference is the shocks.

If the truck has black shocks its got the Z83 pkg.,If it has Blue shocks its got the Z85 pkg.

(Orange shocks denote the ZX3 "Ride-Control Susp. Pkg." and of course Red shocks mean the Z71 pkg. on 4x4s)

I have blue shocks on my 2000 is that why it said "heavy duty suspension" on my window sticker?

Yep.

Also,If you look inside your glovebox you should have RPO code "Z85"

:banghead: Yep, I have blue shocks also and the RPO code of Z85.

Does that make it an 'HD'?

No,It does not make it an "HD".It just means you have the "Heavy-Duty Suspension Pkg." which like I said is just shocks.

All 1500HD's have the "LQ4" 6-liter V8,"MT1" 4L80E Heavy-Duty transmission,3.73 or optional 4.10 gears and a GVWR of 8600 lbs. (Which is RPO code "C6P")

Also all HD's have the Z85 "Heavy-Duty Suspension Package" It is the only suspension package available on the HD pickups.
