kjrcag Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 i have been lurking here a couple of times and am amazed about all of the info here. I figured that the problems i was having with my steering and my door rattle were not very common. However, after reading a bunch of posts i see that they have been covered by TSB's. I guess my questions are these: 1. Are repairs recommended by TSB's covered by the dealer? 2. Does anyone have a copy of them that i can get? By the way, i have a '99 Sierra Z-71, Smoke Grey. Thanks in advance.
GreenRado Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 Welcome to the site and forum! We got a great thing goin here. Maybe someone here has had a different experience, but if you're officially off warranty, the dealer has no obligation to repair/replace under a "TSB", only a "recall". AND they aren't necessarily obligated to repair/replace, even under warranty if they "can't duplicate" problem! I don't happen to have the TSBs anymore, but I'm sure someone has an electronic copy they can post. I have had both of your problems fixed on my '99. It's amazing, really how common and consistent some of these problems are. Good luck and keep us posted.
kjrcag Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 I figured that they weren't covered by dealer if you are still not under warranty, which of course i am not. Hopefully, someone says differently, but i am not holding out hope. i might contact the dealer and ask for an estimate for this fix is. I might end up doing it myself, though, if it is possible to do so.
Nick99Chevy Posted August 14, 2002 Author Posted August 14, 2002 TSB's aren't covered unless you're under warranty.
Redapple Posted August 15, 2002 Posted August 15, 2002 If you are referring to the Steering TSB, and the Driveline Clunk TSB (I think these are the two most common for our trucks) You can get the numbers from www.alldata.com. As far as the repair for these problems, I think you can do this yourself. The Steering TSB involves replacing the intermediate steering shaft, and the bearing on the end. This is all done from inside the engine compartment and is striaght forward. The driveline clunk is also simple. It just involves replacing the Yoke that goes into the tailshaft of the trans. Bill
kjrcag Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 Where can i buy the TSB that i need and what is the approx. cost? Thanks again in advance.
RyanbabZ71 Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 I have the clunk tsb in word format. It is for replacing the slip yoke. As for the steering shaft there is a new lube tsb which i dont have email me if you want the clunk one
MarkD Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 Where are you located? There is an online subscription based database of TSB's but I can't think of the name or url right now.
Shaners Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 There is an online subscription based database of TSB's but I can't think of the name or url right now. You can join alldata.com and they provide all the recalls and TSB's. I don't know what the cost is though.
