Vortech is a supercharger :)

I seem to recall that 4.3 being a Vortec in the S-series trucks before 1990.

Correct, the 4.3l. First year for a Vortec V8 in the CK trucks was 1996.

A) First it's "Vortec", not "Vortech" being confused with the aftermarket supercharger company.

B) The 4.3L V6 has been around for decades, but it was not dubbed a "Vortec V6" until it was installed in S-Series vehicles in 1986. It gets it's name from the design of the combustion chamber and intake charge that caused a "vortex" like swirl.

C) This was not applied (as mentioned above) on the truck V8's until 1996. It was the Vortec 5000 (5.0L V8), Vortec 5700 (5.7L), and Vortec 7400 (7.4L V8).

D) THe current generation of Vortec truck motors are actually LSx motor derived.
