Hitch tongue drop

I am planning on towing a sled trailer this winter and was curious before I go buy a hitch what most folks are using on a 2500HD at stock height? 2" drop? 3"?

ps - Sled trailer is still an incoming item so I don't have a reference I can measure.

Ideally, you want your trailer to be as level as possible when towing. So, the actual tongue drop will vary with different trucks-trailers.

I'd wait til I actually got the trailer first! Then you'll be able to back the truck up to it, making sure the trailer is as level as possible, then measure and figure out what kind of drop you'll need.

 

After having done that, you can simply make a quick run to your local WallyWorld and pick one up...yup they carry them there too!

I'd wait til I actually got the trailer first! Then you'll be able to back the truck up to it, making sure the trailer is as level as possible, then measure and figure out what kind of drop you'll need.

X2, when you know what kind of trailer you want, then take a tongue height measurement, then measure your truck.

Depending on the trailer, you can generally figure that your ball height (to the top of the ball) will be either 18" or 20" from the ground. So measure (on level ground) where the 18 or 20" is and then measure the difference to the center of your reciever on your truck. That will give you the amount of drop you need.

Actually, you might not need a drop. I needed a 1"1/4 raise on mine for my boat trailer to have it level.

With out measuring I would go with a 2" drop...

I have a 2.5" block in the rear of my HD. I have a 6" drop hitch and my boat and flatbed trailers sit perfectly level. But keep in mind, I also have leveling bags on the truck, so they get rid of the sag and still keep the trailer level.
