Okay I know this is probably a dumb question/ dumb idea but oh well. Would it look totally ridiculous for me to put the yellow cab lights on my truck. Keep in mind I just have a regular ol GMC Sierra 1500 4x4. I know they typically go on HD's but I just love the way they look.

Honestly, Who gives a crap what other people think. Its your truck and you are the one who has to look at it everyday, thereby meaning your opinion that really counts. Not Joe Schlub in his Mercedes.

Sorry, I'll get off my high horse now

Ive seen them on 1500's and they don't look too bad...............I'm not abig fan of the new GM ones where the centre light is one...........I prefer the individual cab lights...........just my opinion.... :)

If I do recall correctly, the GMC Sierra Denali C3's are just 1500's, and they have the clearance cab lights on those. They are sharp trucks. You just need to be carefully when it comes to installing them that you get them sealed real good, or else you will have a leak onto your headliner.

I would also like to do this on my 1997 GMC suburban. Does anyone have any advice on the installation?

How do you get the headliner off on a suburban to see where you are drilling and to get the wires through?

What are the correct measurements between the three middle lights and the two outside lights?

How far up from the windshield should I put them?

Is there a wire somewhere in the roof that I can splice them into the running lights?

Would you guys order a GMC OEM set of lights or just the generic set from an auto parts store?

Thanks,

Ben

I've done this on a number of trucks, various years and series. It's pretty easy job in any truck but you only get one shot at it. It's easiest if you use factory lights. Next thing, and probably the most important step is measure, measure, measure off another truck. Measure in every which way and direction. Measure (and drill) wrong and it will always be wrong unless you can do good bodywork to fix it. Dont want bondo filling holes on the roof!

It's been my experience that even if you drop the factory headliner, there is another layer of metal between the inside of the cab and the roof so while you still have to drop the headliner to do it, after you drill and drop the wires you'll end up fishing around for the wires. Once you get the wires started you just tie them together and run a wire down to the fuse box where there is usually another lighting plug in or just tap into the factory running light wire.

Really not a hard job, just time consuming if you want to do it right. And you want to do this one right the first time.

The results are awesome.

Thanks for the advice. I saw that Cabela's has the factory style clearance lights for $45.00. They look exactly the same as the factory lights and come with everything needed for install so I'll probably just get those.

Do you know how to drop the headliner in the suburban because there are no obvious screws, snaps,or clips showing that I could just pull to take it off?

Are there any running light wires in the roof that I could splice off to? And if so where are they usually located?

My main problem is just getting the headliner partially off to get at the wires for the lights.

Not a clue on your sub on the headliner. Maybe call an body shop and ask them. It has to come off one way or another.

Could I just go to a GM dealership and get them to install some OEM cab lights?

Would they do it since mine is only a 1500 instead of a 2500?

Would the cost of the factory lights be really high?

i installed these roof lights myself on my 03 2500ld, a little nerve racking when drilling, no turing back, past that it wasnt too bad, fishing the wire through from hole to hole took a while but paicence prevailed. i got my kit at ziebart here in michigan,. paid too much, like 130, but i've seen them on ebay for a lot less!!!!!!!!!!new! i wouldnt go to GM you'll pay double, the brand name of my lights is PACER and they look IDENTICAL to the facroty lights!!, oh yeah, i didnt drop the headliner either

Well like posted before it's your truck not ours so if you want them put them on..

But IMO I would not put them on unless I had a Dooley truck... JMO
