Underhood Light

Hi Guys,

 

Maybe a really dum question, so excuse my ignorance.

 

How do you turn on this light under the hood of the truck.

 

I haven't taken out a test light to figure out if there's power to it yet. Maybe just a bad bulb or something.

It's supposed to be automatic with hood opening

Yep, you're right.

 

Checked for power - good

Checked for ground - good

Checked the bulb - good.

 

It was the little slider mechanism contacts inside that were a little corroded.

 

Gently wire brushed them, put a little de-electric silicone on them and it works now.

Mine generally doesn't come on when I open the hood.

a little tap and the light will come on.

 

Haven't had the time to really look at it though.

yep, mine too now. but that's ok. As long as I know it works.

 

I took apart the housing, not much too it. The metal contacts slide back and forth.

There's this metal ball and lever that makes the contacts slide up and down.

 

I guess that's what gives it the weight to move the contact slider back and fourth.

 

Works now, I'm happy.

At least you guys with '02 and older trucks have underhood lights

Lot of good a under hood light does. You cant fix the truck if it quits on the road anyway.

Thats true, plus they dont really light that much up any ways.

My '92 had one, PLUS had that kicka$$ light on a retractable cord.

 

And THAT my friends, was a very useful light. Helped me dozens of times.

Its nice for jumping the battery in the dark, or I suppose sparks flying all over the place accomplishes the same thing, so yeah its pretty much useless.
