Running 265's vs. the original 245's. Is it worth recalibrating the computer?

Having my 245's replaced by 265's as this is being typed and I don't see any need in recalibrating for a 3 MPH difference at 60 MPH. I guess if you drove at the speed of the sound, that 3 MPH difference would add up quickly.

Is that + or - 3 from actual mph.

Mine was just the opposite with 245's. Speedometer = 55, radar gun = 53 mph.

When I changed to 265's, 55 indicated was 55 actual.

My 04 2500HD is the same. I figure when its time for tires 265's should correct it.

Mine is exactly the same as yours! When I go through a construction zone with the 265's I can match the radar exactly with my speedo... so I'm right on!!!

Along a 100-mile stretch of interstate mileposts today my odometer registered 94.7 miles, so looks like I'm 'fast' by 5.6% (100/94.7). If I drive at the posted 70MPH, I'm actually doing 73.9MPH, or at posted 55MPH I'm actually at 58.1MPH.

I was thinking 265/70 as this would be closer to 245/75

I went with 265/75's. I personally do not want wider tires, just taller tires. Check to see if the 70's are o.k. with your stock rims.

I upgraded to 265's on my 8.1L 2500HD and noticed also that the speedo was more accurate. I will be replacing the little donut 245's when they wear out on my truck with 265's as well. The big plus is that it looks way nicer to fill them fenders up with some rubber! If you do serious heavy towing or hauling, I wouldn't go up in tire size as it will affect the gear ratio of the rear end somewhat. Not a big deal just going up one size though.

You guys are putting these on stock wheels? No tire OE approves that tire for a 6.5-inch rim.

You're off by 1/2" so it's not that big of a deal. You'll get some crowning because the tire is pinching; the ones that would make me nervous is putting 285's on 6.5" rim. If your concerned about the safety buy a 7" rim and you'll be fine.

I checked mine with the GPS and the speedo was right on with the 245's, plus at 60mph I was right on 2Krpm's now I'm at 2200.

I went with 265/75 and they give the truck a much better look and stance and fills the wheel wells up nicely. If you are concerned with the extra width of the 265/75 vs. stock 245/75, you could consider 235/85 which is the same height as the 265/75 but are not as wide.
