Potential rust area

I was looking around my truck yesterday (its a '05 1500) and noticed when I open the door and look down at the bottom of the fender there is an insulation flap there. so I move it to see what its for and find a pocket of wet dirt behind it at the bottom on th fender lip. I guess this is an area I'll have to remember to flush out when I wash it so it doesn't strt rusting from the wet dirt sitting in there. Just a heads up for everyone to watch out for.

Somebody posted about this same area a while back. I remember checking mine and there was no dirt and it was dry too. ???

Sorry if it is a repost. A couple things that might have contributed to it on my truck. I'm from NY, so they sand/salt the roads and I have mud flaps on.

Mud flaps might be the key. I also drive in sand/salt enviroment but I don't have mud flaps. I never liked them, seems like a good place for bad stuff to accumulate.

On my Nissan truck, one fender started rusting from inside out near the bottom because mud daubers built a nest inside the fender and water would not drain (clogged the drain hole). the fender on the other side was pristine. So flusing this area with water periodically to ensure that the drain holes are clear, is a good idea.

And yes, I always install mud flapas on every new vehicle I buy.

My 99...everywhere.

It seems like one Buffalo winter opened up a cancer brigade on my truck.

-The bumper is rusting...bad...you almost cant step on it in some places.

-The guy before me installed old-style step rails...they rotted where the mounted.

-My differential cover was rotted so badly, it started to leak. Had to have that replaced.

-Ebrake was non-existant. When i pulled the rotors off, there was dust...powdered red dust...it listerally disintegrated.

-The heat shields on my exhaust manifold are rotting off...badly...it vibrates everytime i drive. And that actually opens up another post for me :) haha

I posted awhile back about my 03. It's rusting on the bottom of the doors where the piece of stripping is.

Mine is doing it the same place. I work on Little Rock Air Force Base as a C-130 Mechanic. We have some strong a** rust killer. I cleaned the area up and put the rust killer on it and its seems to have stoped so far.
