Hey everybody.

Just sold my '98 Ext Cab 2500HD w/6.5L Turbo Diesel and bought a 2003 Ext Cab Z-71. MAN what a truck :( ! I REALLY like the Radio Controls on the steering wheel. The Programmable Driver #1 and Driver #2 is a marrage saver for sure :troll: . And those Power Folding Mirrors with the turn signals are just too cool for school !

I guess you could say I'm a Chevy guy. I'm not diehard, but I am biased, LOL ! ! ! My Grandpa was so diehard that he'd only ride in a Chevy. I mean so diehard that in the 50's and 60's a GMC was NOT a Chevy and he would not ride in one, LOL ! ! ! But I do like my GM's ....... I guess it's due to the relieability and longevity I've always got out of them.

First one was a '91 K1500 4x4 I bought in '95......... man that thing was awesome. I always refered to it as 'The Little Engine That Could'

Next one was my wife's '99 Tahoe ........ she's got 159,000 on it now and climbing .... still no major problems other than the Intake Manifold Gasket, but that's a 100K Given.

Then I bought my '98 6.5TD to replace my '91 that had 178K on it. Nice truck, especially for pulling my bass boat when I was fishing tournaments across the state.

Sold the 6.5TD w/121K on it today for this 2003 Z-71. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions about this new generation of Small Block Chevy's. I'll try and use the Search feature as much as possible, but I generally get limited success with Searches on Forums so please bear with me.

Really enjoyed what I've read so far and I hope I can give back to the GM-Trucks Site.

Take Care.

Thanks for the welcome everybody.

Dana, I showed off that Power Folding Mirrors feature today to my parents and relatives ............... you should have seen the look on everyones face, LOL ! ! ! Everybody thought the Programmable stuff was really neat, but that mirror trick floored most of them !

Thanks 99 ! ! !

Got to admit, I like that Dark Blue ...... my wife's Tahoe is that color.

Maybe sometime soon, I'll get some time to take some pictures of mine and add it to 'My garage'.

Thank you, yeah, the Indigo caught my eye in a hurry. Oddly enough when I was waist high, I used to talk about having a blue truck someday.

I know what you're saying. My Grandpa's old pick-up ('59 I think?) was a 3/4 ton longbed stepside with the 283 (???) V-8. It was Dark Blue with a Silver top. When I was a 'pup' I loved to go for a ride in that truck. My Grandpa owned his own Machine Shop ...... so he took the wood bed out and put a 1/4" sheet of steel in (you got to understand he was the King of OverKill .... that's where I get it :( ) and added more leaf springs to the rear. He also made the Chevy dealer pull the I-6 and radiator it came with Brand New and put in the V-8 and larger Radiator before he took delivery, LOL ! ! ! ! ! That MUST HAVE BEEN the good old days ..... you could have the Chevy Dealer hop-up your New Ride and it didn't Void the Warranty :flag:

When I was getting old enough to drive I begged my dad (his truck then due to Grandpa passing) to let me have that truck and fix it up ...... the sheet metal was perfect. I was gonna take the 3-on-tha-tree out and put a 5spd in, take the 4.56 rear out and put 3.73's, and pull the tired old 283 and drop in either a 350, 383, or 400 small block.................. He sold it  The guy today still drives it, beat all to h3ll, but it's still the original engine and trans !

So when I bought my first one (the '91) it was blue ....... Catalina Blue :D

I got to get those pictures put in 'my garage'. I should be able to work on that tonight.

    • I am having similar issues.. 08, 4.8L granted I did had a fender bender and minor damage up front passenger side but I don’t think it had anything to do with it.. I had the high and low pressure checked and my fan for my radiator keeps coming on.. replaced the pressure switch and don’t want to keep throwing parts at it. I did have some minor problems here and there like on long road trips sometimes the ac would get a little warm and then on the highway as soon as I give it a little gas or get a little heavier on the petal it started running cooler. Never had an issue with the ac besides the here and there.. but I also started having issues when I fuel up now it takes a bit to start ( super embarrassing) it runs fine and once started ( only happens after fueling up) starts fine any other time. Could they be related?
    • Spent a small fortune on fuel this weekend.   $6.69 diesel, 18 gallons of that. $6.99 92-octane ethanol free, 10 gallons of that for yard machines $5.59 87-octane for one of the cars, 11 gallons.   $250+ and I didn't even get a tug.   Hormuz ain't Hormuzin again, did not see that coming...LOL
    • Appreciate the advice. I've watched multiple videos. Most showing the most complex for those that have a center console, to one that showed maybe 2 pieces of trim being removed, like 6 screws, pulling back the screen and switch assembly, and installing the inline module. And this was a new/newer Silverado. That didn't look too bad. All the others show alot of trim pieces that need to be removed. I've broken those kind of tabs/clips on my C8 Corvette trying to get to the battery, and that was a lot less clips than what I think is involved here after watching multiple videos and looking at my dash today. I have one on the way. Called a reputable stereo place about installing it and got a "minimum" price of $175. Ouch! Looking forward to seeing what the instructions have to say.
    • Hard to say what the issue might be. Anything from the ability to cool the AC condenser up front, to blend door issues in the HVAC unit, to refrigerant charge, to compressor issues or issues in the lines.   Report back what the techs find on the 29th.   GM has service publications which list acceptable vent temperatures and AC pressures at given ambient temps and humidity. They probably won't touch the system if it's operating within those ranges.   I'm also surprised to hear your 2024 with the L8T is still using R134a? I was pretty sure the HD's had switched to the new refrigerant around 2020.
