Gibson Exhaust

Greetings all,

I have pretty much settled on a Gibson exhaust system for my 2006 VortecMax-equipped GMC Sierra. I like the Corsa systems, but they only seem to offer a system for the 6.0L Denali (which is an LQ4 6.0L vs. my LQ9), not to mention they are really PRICEY.

Tell me this:

I have heard people bad-mouth Gibson for corroding & coming apart. Seems this wouldn't be an issue with a quality stainless system. What's up with their "aluminized" systems? What does that term even MEAN?

Is Gibson typically a quality piece? By "quality" what I am really asking is this: Can I install a Gibson cat-back and leave it place for the life of the truck without any problems?

Please share your experience. Mine is nil.

Thanks! Free drinks on me!

I have a Gibson cat-back single side exit exhaust on my 2002 YukonXL.

It's stainless steel. It's been on the truck since new (well...waited about 5 months) and it is still solid as day 1. And that's Canadian Winters where in Ottawa, salt gets put on the road like it's free. ;)

I would definitely recommend the staindless steel....it costs a bit more but you know it's going to last.

Here's a sound clip of my truck with the Gibson....

Thanks for the info & reply.

Someone told me the Gibson stainless systems are only part stainless--the muffler and the tip. Is that true? Or is the tubing itself stainless?

Hmm...good question.

I think it's all stainless. Looking at the exhaust after 4 years, it all still looks good!

the "aluminized system" is aluminized tubing with a stainless tip and muffler. the stainless system is stainless tubing, stainless muffler, and stainless tip.

are you looking at the side swept model? I am trying to decide between that system or a magnaflow single side exit. i'v heard magnaflow is better performance wise but gibson is supposedly more quiet in the cab.

Thanks.

It was the best I could get with a portable mp3 player that records.

I am looking at the side swept Gibson. I'd be looking at Magna-Flow 'cuz I have one on my S10 and have been happy with it; but their rep told me they don't have one for my truck--LQ9 6.0L.

I like the Corsa, too, but theirs is REALLY pricey, and is only available with a double tip--I prefer the single tip.
