Ok so I was wondering if there was a way to make any type of GM nav unit work wtih any other type of truck.

I have a 06 GMC CC that has the base bose system. If I was to put a nav unit in that is not compatible with either the bose system or the base bose system coud I put a after market amp between the nav unit and speakers to make the system work?

Also how did you guys find somone who had any knowlege about doing this set up? Everyone I talk to doesnt want to help, says it cannot be done and suggest I get a new truck or somthing to that degree.

I really want a particular Nav unit in my truck the touch screen unit with the DVD drive behind the screen. I have not found one that is compatable with the base bose system and really dont know if they do make one with the dual drive that works for the base bose systems.

Thanks

do you want a factory delhpi made nav in your truck? or aftermarket? if you want factory made type. i suggest the delphi tnr800. look it up. there are 4 different versions for four different types of gm vehicles. your 06 sierra should be compatible. i dont see why not. however. if you are unable to make this work for you, and stilll want to go abouts the route of the incompatible audio unit, then yes i do believe it can be done. you have to bypass your factory audio system entirerly by adding a 4 channel amp, running speaker wire from the head unit all the way to the amps. or you coupld tap the speaker wire into the bose amp if you can locate the input. then get a 4channel high output converter so you can run high frequency rca's from your head unit to your amp. thats pretty much it. its just like, and actually it is, as if you wanted to add amps to a factory radio that doesnt have rca outputs. now if you check out the tnr800 and it works for your year make and model, youll have bose audio, but if you decide to add amps in the future, youll still have to follow those steps. the tnr800 is an oem aftermarket made unit. well hope this helped/. good luck!

This is very possible. A company called PAC(pacific audio co.) makes adapters to install any aftermarket nav in that truck. To intergrate the Bose you need a OS2BOSE, and to intergrate steering wheel controls you need an SWI-X. The OS2 will plug right into your factory radio harness and give you connections for the new nav. It also keeps your Onstar in working order. The SWI-X is a little more complex to install but not terrible. Mtera makes an install kit to fit a double din nav in the dash, as well as an antenna adapter...

yes thank you mike. like mike said, if you want the dvd behind the screen then youll have to go aftermarket. the tnr is a nice unit if you dont want to lose factory installed options without adding adapters etc. my dad i installed the tnr800 for, he has the xm onstar, bose, and rear entertainment dvd monitor. in his case he would lose a lot. so i installed this one and bypassed the factory nav screen to accept dvd's on it. it looks clean and by itself is super easy to install. but the bypass is a little more complex. i on the other hand have an eclipse unit that has a 6.5in screen with dual drives. one for cd/mp3 and the other a dvd rom/ dvd player. the dvd rom is for dvd maps for navigation. but when you wanna watch a movie on it you have to remove the nav disc. therefore losing nav temporarily. im going to say this because eclipse's customer support blows. dont buy an eclipse because the system is slow!!!! i only bought this one because the price i got it for through work was like 50% off retail of 1800.00. if i was to spend the money id get the pioneer AVICZ1. 7" screen, hard drive for the navigation, and independant cd/dvd/mp3 slot. the hard drive allows nav in all and any modes of operation. also accepts either xm or sirius. oh and by the way, the siruis tuner from eclipse sounds like garbage. sounds like rf modulation. the avicz1 will run you just above 2 grand. if navs not all that for you, theres a cheaper one for a couple hundred less thats no nav, but has a built in 6 dvd changer. but i think its 6.5" screen, and i dont remember the model number. steering control like he said is possible, a little tricky, since youll have to program it and locate the steering control wire i think in the steering column next to the ignition. but works perfect. less the mute button which i havent figured out how to program yet. the data retention harness 0S2BOSE will run you about 100.00. just fyi. umm i think this all covers it. hope this helped.
