cranked up my t-bars today. drivers side took 8 turns and pass. side took 5 , to gain 1 1/2" . is this normal that there is that difference? will i have any adverse effects to this other than a little rougher ride?

thanks all

Mine had a difference. I think the passenger side took more than the driver side, if I remember correctly.

I'd suggest an alignment after an adjustment like that...

It is normal for the drivers side to take a few more turns to make everything level.

You will probably notice a little rougher ride after cranking the torsion bars.

Just wondering...."are you guys lifting your rigs say with perhaps a floor jack, then cranking the t-bars, or are you simply cranking the t-bars with your rigs on level ground?"

i took a floor jack on the frame and jacked it up to take the pressure off.

thanks for the replies everyone...keep em coming

You need an aftermarket shock like Bilsteins (that don't use the shock as a lower suspension stop) if you don't want the harsh ride after cranking the T-bars.

The stock Bilstein replacements are :

Front : F4-BE5-6081 HD

Rear : F4-BE5-6082 HD

Kennedy (one of the supporting vendors on this site has good prices, fast shipping and great customer service)

I cranked my t-bars a couple months ago. About the same as yours--1 1/2". A little rougher ride, not very much at all. You could barely tell by looking at the front tires that I had done anything. I did get it realigned though because it was out of specs. just don't go flying over speed bumps and you'll be ok. :chevy:

I wonder if the wheelbase has any effect on the ride after you crank. I have a ext. cab, long bed, 2 wd.

why should it ride harsher?

you are not making the spring bar any stiffer. you are just adjusting the ride height.

your rough ride can come from two things. 1. your shock is bottoming out and is acting as a stop on your downward suspesion travel. The solution for this problem would be a longer shock as some have suggested or your can make a spacer. i just made a 1 inch spacer for the bottom shock mount, rides better until i can afford shocks. 2. your upper control arm is hitting the bumpstop when your wheel is traveling downward for example, when you hit a pot hole your wheel tries to sink into the hole. since your truck is jacked up your upper control arm has lost down ward travel and is hitting the bump stop not allowing your wheel to drop to absorb the impact. solution for this would be cognito racing's upper control arm kit which gives your more downward travel. good luck

If you crank the torsions I wouldnt run that stock length Bilstein in the front. That shock was designed for a stock truck, not a cranked up one. Additionally, there is a slightly longer Bilstein for the front that will work better and not limit the front travel like the factory stock length shock.
