How fast is the 4.8?

I just got a 2000 silverado RCSB 4X4 with the 4.8 auto trans and 3.73's. Im running the stock size tires 245/75/R16. The engine is completely stock with just a magnaflow in place of the stock muffler. My question to you guys is just how fast is my new truck. I know its a 4X4 truck, not meant for speed, but it feels pretty quick from red lights and passing, but I havent driven many other vehicles to compare it with. Does anyone know what times I would expect to get at the drags? Any info would be much appreciated. And will a performance tune do anything noticeable on the 4.8? I hear it really wakes up the 5.3 6.0 and 8.1

I've never seen any times on a 4.8l Silverado, Its gotta be somewhat close to the 5.3l, their power numbers are kinda close HP wise, but lacks a good 40 ft lbs on torque tho.

Thats what I have been thinking, The truck is new to me and I really like it. I had thought of buying a dodge ram, but I am very happy to have chosen the General instead.

I'd guess anywhere from 15-17 seconds in the 1/4.

i had a 4.8 but mine was the rcsb with the manual trans and i noticed that being the manual gave you a little bit of a jump on the 5.3s but my friend has a rcsb auto 5.3 and his truck would pull off every bit of 15:00-15:3~ my truck would hang right with his either i got the jump out the hole or he did. But tell you what, dont let the 5.3 get a hole truck on you it pulls alot harder in 3rd or 2nd i guess then my truck did and then couldnt catch it. I had a k&n and an exaust the same as my friends 5.3

not a bad truck dude dont give up on it you didnt loose that much power compared to the 5.3

I bet the 5.3 will be quite a bit quicker out of the hole from the additional torque. They are pretty close unloaded, but towing the gap widens.

What...the 5.3L is just a stroked 4.8L...or is it bored?

The 4.8 uses long rods and the 5.3/5.7 uses short rods. Im not sure if 5.3l cranks fit in 4.8's. I started a thread in performance engine building about all the interchangeable 4.8/5.3/6.0 parts but no responses so far.

But the 4.8l and the 5.3 have the same bore.
